Does anyone remember the TV sports series called The Superstars from the 70's?
Because if you dont then this isnt going to mean a fig to you!!! lol

It was a competition of fitness and endurance when the sports stars of the day competed against each other in events like squat thrusts, press ups, running, canoeing, rowing, cycling and etc... I think you smell what I'm cooking eh?? eek

Well after being on the shelf its making a comeback on the BBC, but sadly there wont be no Ron Pickering doing the commentary(Remember his We Are The Champions?) but David Vine might be there?

My two favourite memories of The Superstars was watching Brian Jacks the judo player who was a fit as a flea, and poor old Kevin Keegan when he fell off his bike in the cycling event!! That had to hurt!! smile

Now I have a question...
Was the music for The Superstars the same as the music for the Monday Night Game (american football) on ABC ?

all the best
Alan

Ahhhhh! One of my favourite shows of all time. I wonder if they'll show it on BBC America? They should.
Probably in another 10 years or so and then in back to back episodes until we become suicidal! lol

Debs x smile
Alan - I think you are right on the music being the same.

I had the bike that they always raced around on. It's at my parents now and hasn't been ridden in about a decade. Forget the name of it but it was a red Raleigh racer.

Personally, I would prefer a return of "It's A Knockout" smile

Youre spot on Mark!!!

I liked It's A Knockout too!!
it used to have me creased up!! because all you heard was Stuart hall laughing all the way through!!
Then there was Eddie Waring who was a little more sedate!!
I loved it!!

Stuart Hall has never appealed since he had to concentrate on Radio 5 footy reports - his attempts at humour after "IAKO" just fell flat in my opinion.

Put the man back where he belongs smile

Oh what about his reports from the game and his post match summary? It was more like an RSC production wasnt it?

The one day he said as theatrically as usual "Fair stood the wind for Preston!!" I was waiting to hear about longbows or even Longfellow!!!

When I left "It's a Knockout" had been revised. It was on Channel 5 and presented by Keith Chegwin. Not very good though.
They always mess up the old faves - anyone remember that the winners of the UK Knockout used to go forward and represent the country in Europe against the other members of the lunatic fringe - Swiss, French, Germans, Dutch etc etc Weird and wonderfully named towns from the continent competing against the likes of Grimsby and Maidenhead !!! Classic !!!!

On to Superstars - Brian Jacks really was an athletic 'stud' - always seemed to win. I remember Stan Bowles, the old footie player, smoking ciggies between events on the sidelines. I bet they'd never show that now. I really remember the pistol shooting as being the funniest - some of the guys had no earthly idea and hit the loading table more often than the target !!
No Sorry !

But I too loved "It's a knockout", brilliant.

lol lol

I was interviewed by Stuart Hall whilst wearing an extremely short miniskirt!
Did you have a big fake head on too?

Seriously, what was that for monster?
Children in Need. Our Scout troup pushed a pram from Manchester to Blackpool -my friend and I were the only girls so we rather stood out, especially as we wore out old gym kit to keep the scoutmasters' spirits up! wink
