Anybody in the same situation as me? I was supposed to be flying home to England today to celebrate my wedding with my family and friends - but alas, my travel document has yet to arrive. My application was received by the INS early April - at that time, I was told it would only take 3 days to get one. This prediction changed about 4 times. When I went to the INS to pick up my EAD, the predicted time was 75 days from receipt, then 90 days from receipt. I'm just so fed up with it - 6 months ago I could travel anywhere in the world and now I can't even come back in the country! How ridiculous. I'm appalled at the state of the INS.

Hi
You should be able to travel outside the US (and return...) provided that you have received your I-485 receipt notice.
I used this to re-enter the US, prior to getting AP, and had no problems

Hi BritEm -
Be very careful about travelling if your case is still pending with the INS.
You may be allowed back into the US but the law specifically states re pending I-485 cases, that leaving the US
without approval will cancel your application and you'll have to start all over again.
Also with all the problems concerning terrorism and illegal aliens every non-citizen is being eyed suspiciously.
The fact that you had to apply for advance parole means that your case (for permanent residency) is still pending. Is this correct?
I copy and pasted this quote from their website
http://www.ins.gov
Caution
Due to recent changes to U.S. immigration law, travel outside of the United States may have severe consequences for aliens who are in the process of adjusting their status, extending their nonimmigrant stay, or changing their nonimmigrant status. Upon return, these aliens may be found inadmissible, their applications may be denied, or both. It is important that the alien obtain the proper documentation before leaving the U.S.
Admission into the U.S. is not guaranteed. In all cases, the alien is still subject to INS inspection at the port of entry to determine whether the alien is admissible into the country
You can get more information from this direct link to a page on their site.

Hope this helps.

BritEm,
I too would say word of caution about leaving prior to having permission.
I have in the past applied for advance parole however not through the mail I applied in person.
I went to the INS office at 6.30am dragging the kids with me, we joined a very long line at that time in the morning even though the office didn't open until 8am. We were in the queue until around 10am. We then entered the building and there were even more lines.. We then proceeded to see someone and hand in all our required paperwork and around 4pm we had our advanced parole papers and were ready to go.
I sugggest if you can to go there in person.
Best of luck.
