Maybe I am missing something here, but it seems to me that this movie never existed for more than a day in the US. It was advertised several times (probably around the time or before Avatar was advertised) and it was on at the cinema that I usually attend. I had planned to go see it that weekend when it premiered, however, something came up and I thought I'd go later. Later never came, so I've been watching for it on Pay Per View. Every damned movie that came out at that time has been put on PPV except this one!
You may say that a movie about a long dead British queen wouldn't interest Americans but that's not necessarily the case. Annnnd, I might add that movies such as The Queen, Bright Star, etc. have been on ppv for months. So, it isn't the fact that it's a British movie. Hell, I probably see at least one British movie a week on channels other than BBCA.
I dunno....it beats me
DVD is out now....so you can watch it naked if you like with a cup of tea and some hob-nobs. Much better than going to the cinema.
Watched it last night one of our netflix movies .
quite interesting and as far as i can tell true to history . .
she is the grandmother of most of european royalty . and with the industrial revolution she did indeed leave her mark .
on a differant note it was her expression about female homosexuality that *there can not be such a thing* which resulted in only male homosexuality being outlawed .
worth seeing

Whoo-hoo!!! Well, my pussy (think Mrs. Slocum, cheeky boy!) always sits in my lap whilst I watch the telly so I will have to forego the naked bit, but the tea and hobnobs sound like a plan!

Indeed it was! I watched it today and it was sooooo good! I actually recieved it for a Mother's Day gift (because my dear childers had enough of my whinging about not having it on PPV!), so daughter Rhiannon & I (who, of my two daughters, is the most like-minded about movies) had our tea, fully clothed, & scones (not hobnobs) and enjoyed laughing and crying at the brilliant love story of Victoria & Albert. It would be so like Victoria to turn the tables on those who arranged her marriage to actually fall in love with him
I read her biography years ago and want to read it again now.

Queen Victoria in Her Letters and Journals by Christopher Hibbert.
Try this book, which I loved. You'll learn more about Queen Victoria from her own words than by reading a bio.

Oh, thank you! I will go and put it on reserve at the library straight away. It's so cool that I can do that online (saves me one trip anyway)
Well, before I post this, I just went on the library site and under Christopher Hibbert and found
Queen Victoria: A Personal History which I hope is the same. Mr. Hibbert seems to have written a good many books about historical figures. I also saw that he has one about Admiral Lord Nelson that I'm going to reserve as well.
Ta for the good info!

It's not the same. I went to my personal library and quoted the exact name of the book for you.

Then none of the libraries in our general vicinity have this book as I did a search on the exact name you gave me (did not find it) and did a search on Christopher Hibbert in which I found that book and probably 10 more on various historical figures. Not to worry, however, when all else fails, I go to Amazon.com, do a search, find what I want, look for a used copy, buy it cheap & get it in 2 days. I really look forward to reading the one you suggested!

I just checked Amazon.com. You'll be amazed at how high the prices are for a used copy of this book.
BTW, every library will
order a book for you and this can be done online too. Sometimes, if the book is out of print, they will borrow a copy from another library.
