Enough said. 0-0 but we're through to the next round. What a pile of poo though, they eeked out a draw in an abysmally boring display. If they play like that on Saturday, we're doomed Mr. Mainwaring.
Let's hope this morning was all about qualification and we go back to trying to push the game like we did for all but the last 15 mins against the Argies. Just one thing - does anybody else out there think Heskey is playing on borrowed time. Get someone else in there. Poolr little Michael Owen may as well be up front alone
I have to agree regarding Heskey. I liked him when he was at Leicester, but he just looks like a blundering big-man now. No finesse and I don't see how he's ever going to score a goal.

Last night was the first game I watched of this world cup, it was a weird experience listening to the crazy Irish fella and the unassuming American. What made me laugh was just after Sherringham came on, the Irish fella made a reference to his Millwall days and his partnership with Tony Cascarino. What was that all about? Such a long time ago.

You have to love Sherringham though - he's from Chingford, the town I grew up in. He went to school with my sisters and is best-mates with my best mate's older brother. And of course he's Spurs' only representative in the squad. I'd love to see him get a couple of goals as a late substitute against Denmark.
Yes it was a boring game but England achieved the reult it wanted .
They where playing to go throu to the next round with no injuries and no yellow cards ,this they acomplished .

Most scenerios had them as the runner up anyway ,had Sweden won and England won they would still have been runners up so they played conservativly as the next rounds ( sudden death ) are the most important .

Yes Heskey,s international career is about over IMHO he cant play for 90 mins anymore .

Looking forward to the next round, Denmark will be our opponents and it should be a hard fought game .

One more thing ,Dont cry for me argentina .
the truth is i never loved you .
and wont miss you smile smile smile

Agree with John on all points there.

I think Sinclair is doing well, considering he was not first choice in that position. His touches looked nice last night but he was playing a bit too deep for my liking.

Shame about Heskey but there you go. He did have one quick attempt on goal but that was it. Owen needs far better cover than that.

Roll on Saturday!
(4.30 am kick off for us West Coasters!)

Yes, we laboured to an uninspiring goalless draw, yet it proved enough to put our boys into the last 16. So a slap on the wrists for those who seem determined to criticise the latest performance. Given the heat, the energy-sapping humidity and the all-round physical strength and skills of Nigeria, this was a brilliant result. It's not all that long ago since England weren't even going to qualify for the World Cup. Now we've made the last 16 easily, qualifying
from the hardest group.

Can England lift their first World Cup since 1966? Oh yes, I hope so.

This is Des Lynam, in Chicago razz
My sources inform me that ABC have nabbed the England vs. Denmark game as another 'featured' (f*****up more like) match for broadcast on Saturday at 12.30 pm Pacific.

Back to Univision's Spanish but live coverage then for me.
I agree about Heskey but what about the midfield? They are playing so deep its not surprising we're not scoring.

Also, too much emphasis on Beckam's free kicks - so predictable - get within goal range and its got to be a Beckam special. Can't we have a bit of variation? roll

Will we be more attacking in the knock-out stage or more defensive and terrified of making a mistake?? ???
I agree with Devon Bird (howdy former neighbour btw!) that a lot of commentators and fans seem to forget the conditions that England were playing under yesterday.

I would have loved a win, goals and excitement but all we needed was a point and the team put in a solid performance that leaves them strong enough for the next round. So far so good.
Hello everyone!!
I dont know about anyone else but Ive got sleep deprivation and now blood pressure from watching the bore draw this morning!!
My wife keeps on about Heskey aswell she wants ready Teddy to play!!Heskey's a good player but I think theyre not playing a system which enables Owen to run on to the ball at pace.Ive never seen Owen so much on the wing!! He reminds me of Alan Shearer's games when Keegan left Newcastle and Dalglish and later Gullit took over!!Shearer went from a centre forward to being like a wing back!!
Anyway, the Argies are out and I was and still am elated!!
More games coming up now tonight I dont know if I can take much more of this late night insanity but it only comes every 4 years and Ive aged by 10!!!

Come on England!!!
all the best to you all!!
Alan
Agreed, the performance was less important than the result.

Now about this Heskey thing - Sheringham, Vassell etc etc.

What about Robbie FOWLER !!!

Him and Owen played tgoether at Liverpool, know each other's game and he can score too.

Thoughts anyone ??
It would be good to see Fowler get a run-out. He has more speed than Heskey and is quite strong for his size so worth a shot.

Not sure if Sven would agree though at this crucial stage.
I agree - and furthermore - what's the point in playing Owen when the team can't even get the ball to him? He's a great striker, but like Lineker before him, he can't create chances for himself.

It's time for the experience and guile of men like Sheringham and Fowler. We've only scored two goals in this tournament so far. We need more.

C'mon England mad
I agree 1 goal per game wont see us throu to the finals .
we need to support Owen more and give him more chances , who else do we have who is as quick and dangerous ???
FOWLER !!! grin

Actually we have some options - Scholes can play up front in a push. Or we could platoon Sheringham and one of the others. Not sure Big Teddie could last a full 90 in that temperature/humidity.
