I mean do you use a phone card or you call through the internet aka voip?

I'm thinking of getting an alternative way instead of using my local phone provider IDD and I can see Skype, Vonage, Viatalk, Magicjack, Onesuite, Teleblend among others. I really don't know which one to choose because looks like everyone has a positive thing to say about everything. I will be using it for calling US to UK and vice versa and also some international calls like India and Asia.

Basically I want one account and maybe let other family members use it.
I use http://www.jajah.com
I used to have to use it through my computer but it's now done entirely by phone and an access number. The only downside is you will automatically be disconnected after 1 hour.
I use http://www.lingo.com ....works fine for us. There were a few teething troubles at first but those have all gone and I don't notice any difference between Lingo and ATT now aside from the fact that I save around $100 per month on my phone bill!

I use Yak. http//www.yak.com/index.aspx?id=52&lg=en No fees and I can dial direct from my home phone.
Vonage
I don't have a long distance service, I just dial 10-10-987 before the number and it costs 37 cents to connect and 3 cents a minute for all calls in North America, Europe and some other places...

Those were the rates when we first started using it so they may have gone up but the bill we receive is very low despite chatting to the family in the UK for hours at a time. It does however cost a little more to call to cell phones using this method. Not sure why.

We have been very happy using this service and have had no problems with it at all... and no contracts either!
I use Rebtel -- and have for over a year. It's really nice. Their rates are really low. But they also have this way to make free calls that sounds complicated at first but isn't at all once you do it once or twice.
Cell phone cingular/ at&t works fine for me .
Vonage.

For calls to UK from my cell/office phone I use http://www.onesuite.com

That's what I use. Cheap as chips. 8)

I just use my cell phone which is AT&T (or whoever might be buying them next or whomever)...

I hardly phone home at all, maybe text a message to my mum or sister from time to time or send an email....

Thought I might try out the new Yahoo IM though (I have Skype as well but really, I don't really phone that many people to be honest - they all phone me...)

I use Vonage. The really cool thing is that they let me set up a virtual number in the UK so anyone there can call me on UK charges. I talked to my brother for 3 hours one night and it only cost him about 3 quid.
I buy a "phonecard" from nobelcom.com
You can search based on where you're calling and where you're calling from. The result will be a chart of "cards" with differing rates....some with connection fees and maintainence fees, some without. Its a trade off where the cheapest rates have the fees but I always get ones without fees but with slightly higher rates. You don't get a physical card, rather a PIN so you just dial a 1-800 number then your PIN and away you go. Works fine for me with cellphone or home phone.
I just don't bother calling UK any more - saves a fortune ;-)
