for those of you who like dark humour see .

DEATH AT A FUNERAL (2007 )

I didnt stop laughing at its pretty sick english humour , it gets belly aching laughs from the word go , and so it goes on until the end
got to appreciate this type of humour on the lines of *really bad things * rent it for a good nights entertainment .

On a differant note (heavy drama )

ATONEMENT (2007 )

one of this years oscar nominations was artisticly produced , acted ,and the plot was superb although the pacing was a little slow .set in WW2 england it tells a heart rendering love story , a little bit of a * chick movie *its well worth watching

both are available at netflix
Thanks for the suggestions John. Both are now in our netflix list.
I liked "Attonement" too.

There is an incredible bit of cinematography that runs for several minutes across the surreal landscape of the Dunkirk beach, while the BEF are waiting for evacuation. I imagine it was CGI'd to some extent but it looks fantastic and I was very impressed by it. I thought Keira and James had some excellent scenes too - it is getting to the point though where James McAvoy is in just about every decent film. He's not a great actor but he's not bad either.
I've seen both and actually at the cinema too.

I liked Atonement but now I'm afraid that I don't have the patience for the slow pace of that type of film.

Liked the very Englishness of Death at a Funeral. Loved Uncle Alfie.
IMO, I thought Death at a Funeral was pretty bad. Really slow and the jokes or gags seemed to be way too obvious and slapstick inspired. Personally I think it was a film that was made for the American market. Not funny at all.
Atonement.
Redcar finally made the Big Time as the location for the Dunkirk scenes.
Not strictly a movie, but now apparently on dvd, Brideshead revisited. Loved the series. Loved the book. Loved Waugh. An England long gone, but lovely to look at.

I don't like movies

so no way to give some positive comment

Watched an excellent movie on the History channel the other night. "Downfall" It was a true account as seen through the eyes of Hitlers secretary of his last 10 days on this earth. It was German with subtitles.
You wont find this on Netflix.

I find the selection on the TV cable is more than enough for us. We record several each week on Bravo, History, TCM and AMC. If we fancy a new movie we go to an afternoon showing at a movie complex 5 min walk away.
