I'm just trying to clear some things up in my head. My Mother (now deceased) and father both held/hold dual citizenship with UK and Canada....both born in the UK. It's my understanding that I am automatically a UK citizen through my father and all I need to do is apply for a British Passport. Is this correct? Do I have to apply from Canada? What is the avedrage wait time for an application for a british passport? Take any citizenship tests? If I go to stay in the UK should I travel on my Canadian passport? Is my British passport all I need to prove citizenship? When should I apply for a National Insurance Number? I'm trying to find out everything I can so I'm prepared and hit a little snags as possible. I've searched many sites and read so much info that it's starting to get a bit confusing to me. If anyone knows any answers to these questions, I would greatly appreciate the help.
Thanks.
You can obtain your UK passport through the UK High Commission in Ottawa or through the Internet.

As long as either of your parents were born in the UK you are eligible for UK citizenship/passport.
I just got my 2 month old daughter a UK birth certificate and passport. It was surprisingly quick.

Scramble,
Is there any way you can PM me about this, please? Baby Stelly is due any day (today?) and I want to get him/her a UK passport quite soon, so that I don't have to worry about it again (just in case the rules ever change). Have looked at the applications online and stuff and just would appreciate some pointers on what you did.

Cheers, congrats on the baby
Stel.

We didn't bother with the Birth Cert, Stel, just the passport. I've heard it might make it easier down the line, but in most cases not.

All it takes is $$$
