Hmm i need to ask about that, See i had heard filling etc was noramly about $5k plus, so when i heard $2500 i thought , that is a great deal. I need to ask some more questions. I sent an email today based on some of the advise i have had from here.
But for the record I understood that the $2500 was for everything including filing fees.
always get several quotes. hearsay is usually BS.
oh and get them on paper, so when you go back with the $$ they don't say, "oh, that quote was only for A and B -C is an entirely different matter".
Thanks you , that sis a good idea getting down in writing.
funny i called a different one today and they wanted $200 just to see me and wouldn't give any costs over the phone... no thank you
It sounds like you got married, overstayed your Visa Waiver, looked into the legal immigration process, called a lawyer, found it was very expensive, then put off it for a while because of the expense. Now, it sounds like the immigration lawyers are trying to screw you over (as lawyers do).
From my experience, immigration lawyers try to micromanage the process when all you might need is some advice on what forms to file.

I concur. Try to get one to agree to a meeting where they lay out every form and detail you need to deal with - you'll have to pay for it but it's just one hour as opposed to many and paying through the nose for forms you could easily fill out/file yourself.
See with this lawyer i originally spoke to , they sent me the form and got me to fill them all out anyway. So now i do wonder how 'overcharging' they really were.
Tell em you came from mechico and all will be well !!!!
This is me. Kinda.
Came over in 2001 on VWP, overstayed, got married in 2006, had kid in 2007.
I applied for AOS in July 2007, got my greencard approved on Friday (Feb 8th).
You are not "illegal" but you are also not legal, you are out of status.
I did all mine with a laywer, an awesome one. Everything was a breeze and well worth the $2000 we paid her on top of filing fees.
DO NOT leave the country. If you do, then you have effed it.
The ONE single question the immirgation officer asked me at the interview was whether I left the country after my overstay.
Good luck!
Go see a lawyer and follow his/her advise .
people screw up sometimes ( not me im perfect heheheeh ) but dont compound things by not following the rules now . decide where you *want *to be and take the neccesary steps to get there .
