I'm just a bit fed up of people putting down the Eighties. It just happens to be the decade of my youth and I loved every bit of it.
I especially detest the derogatory comments directed at the music. All I can say is that the Eighties puts this teeney-bopper-poppy-I think I'm going to throw up music- of today to shame.
I mean, c'mon what does N'Sync have on Duran Duran when it comes to pure sex appeal, looks and really danceable poppy tunes. I'll just like to add here that John Taylor was and is just one of the most beautuful people alive! (Now I'm sounding teeny-bopperish!)
I'd crush Britney's cds (then burn and throw the ashes into the ocean). How is SHE a pop icon compared to Debbie Harry, Chrissie Hynde and the like? ???
It's not just the music either. I remember the frightening 'big hair' eek but I also LOVED the bob. Remember the versatility.
Yes, I know that I wore those god-awful stirrup pants (only you true Eighties girlies will remember those!) Luckily they gave birth to leggings and the fact that you felt comfortable wearing them without trousers was monumental.
I suppose I'm hankering after a time filled with nostalgic memories but the naivity of that decade stands out the most. The Nineties came along and crushed all that.
Perhaps it's just growing up and seeing the world through adult eyes that's the real difference. Perhaps there was something really special about that decade.
I think there's a little bit of truth in both.
