Great Balls of Fire, I never thought this would happen, so early ,if at all!!!!! shock
World War 2 bled the UK white. No doubt North Sea oil helped the situation.

I daresay that conducting a very expensve foreign war without asking its populace to sacrifice anything but the lives of its soldiers is also contributing to US productivity taking a downward slide.

Could be.

I refuse to recognise the occupation of Iraq as a "war" - the last proper war the US fought led to raised taxes to pay for it, wage freezes and other sacrifices on the home front. When they return, then I'll call it a "war" but that's never likely to happen when its main purpose is business-based.

You have to read the articule fully to understand what is is saying, in everyday terms that most citizens are concerned with ,the spending power and cost of purchasing comodaties its still lower for the average america than brit .

where the US fails is on social services ( health care ) and vacation time .

dont know if the mandatory cost ( tax ) of the NHS to each individual was taking into account when acessing the tax paid by Brits .
that should be a interesting statistic .

QUOTE FROM ARTICULE

The Oxford analysts also point out that Americans benefit from lower prices than those in Britain. With an adjustment made for this “purchasing power parity”, the average American has more spending power than his UK counterpart and pays lower taxes. (In the run-up to Christmas many Britons travelled to New York and other American cities to take advantage of the strength of sterling against the dollar and those lower prices.)

However, the British typically have significantly longer holidays than Americans as well as access to “free” healthcare.
