Hi,

I'm a university student conducting a survey for one of my linguistics seminars. I'd like to find out what native speakers of English think about certain dialects/accents of their language. Please help my research by visiting this site and give your opinion by filling out a short questionnaire.

Any comments/suggestions concerning the research or the questionnaire are welcome.
I did it... but during the second round they were all playing at once.

Very little variation, but that might have been the point. They were all male too! -?

What do you mean they were playing at once?? Is something messed up with the sound smples?

The point is how You percieve the difference ;)

Males? Fair point. It had to be either all male or all female. Just a random choice. Nothing personal :)

During round 2 of the same sound bites I didn't listen to the whole piece because I had already heard them!

I didn't click the 'stop' square, I just clicked proceed and the previous one kept playing in the background.

Could have been 'user error'! (Blonde twit, me not you)

I gathered that they were male for a reason, and not a broad range.

First one sounded like my Grandad! lol
Ok I did your survey and was disappointed to find yet another survey of English and how it's spoken that limits English to only the counties south of Birmingham. I must say though if it wasn't for being within spitting distance of San Francisco I would never have known what Estuary English is, well, I have been away for 20 years, and in my day we just called that accent lazy and common. ) wink
Done it.
