I want to being my Mother over to the states to live. I was born in USA, so not a problem bringing her here. Problem is health insurance. She has high blood pressure. I think her only option is Medi-Cal. State welfare insurance type. To get Medicare she needs ot be here 5 years living.

I live in Los Angeles. Thing is for Medi-Cal you need to be low income. We are worried she would sell her house at home and come here and not qualify for Medi-Cal then were screwed so to speak.

Does anyone have info or similar situations?

When coming here and your accepted are you given a green card right away? Once accepted to come to America do you have to move right away or are you given time?

Thanks all
Sean,
You need to speak to an agency or attorney in California that deals with these issues as it is quite State specific.
You should also speak to an immigration adviser/lawyer about how her need for treatment might impact on her immigration application (presuming she is not a USC).

I do not require the time limits, but was you are granted the "green card" you have to come to the US within a certain time.
How about ANYBODY emigrating here should be self supporting ,has that idea been killed by the bleeding heart liberals ??

When i came here legally many moons ago i had to show evidence i could live and support myself with out any govt help .

The s/s system is strained enought now without added more bodies to it , what has you mother done for american that we should support her in her old age ?

There are many hard working american citizens who dont have health care and ill sooner help them then somebody who has never ever lived here , or contributed to our tax system.

by what you wrote in your post she will not be poor after selling property back in the UK '
Buy private insurance with some of the proceeds of selling the home .

Calm down John, the rules did not change. Although, with a fair wind, the healthcare system over here will within the next few years.
