Hello all
I have recently launched "British Style" fish and chips at 30 Stud Road, Dandenong, between Clow and Heatherton Rd. As an ex Yorkshireman, making great, fresh fish and chips came naturally. The fish has not been frozen or pre cooked. The chips, peeled by Yorkshire virgins ( well, would be if I could find one-)
are made fresh at the shop, not the frozen rubbish. Pork pies, mushy peas, black pudding, Haggis and Yorkshire fish cakes etc are all available. The fish is a good size fillet, with thin crispy VB batter. It's also a cafe, with the useual malt vinegar and HP on the tables, no extra cost to eat in. If your in the earea, come in and say ello, and taste the difference. We are open from 12 - 8pm and closed on Mondays.
I make a mean bacon buttie, with Rob's British butchers smoked bacon, yum.

I am also looking for a partner for the business, to set up the next shop.

Cheers

Vic
Yum! Sounds great!

Wish I had something like that in my area (west coast USA) - you'd cry if you saw "Skippers" fish and chips that is available locally.

Best of luck with your venture.
Good luck with your veture. If you have a website, submit a link to our directory.
Good luck with the Fish and Chips.

What kind of fish do you use and how does it compare with North Sea/Atlantic cod and haddock?

WE can buy NZ Orange Roughy over here it is very expensive @ abt $14/ pound pre fried, but it is a very nice tasting fish.
Hi Johnr
I use Flake (Gummi Shark) Flathead fillets, Blue eye and Barramundi. I only use fresh fish in season, and nothing farmed. All fish are locally caught (Australian)
We have some really nice fish downunder, the key is not to overcook it.

Regards

Vic
Hard to find decent fish & chips around here . they almost always use cat fish * cheap and nasty looking smelling and tasting *
did find a nice fish and chip shop on vacation last july in Alaska .

We have a seafood shop here in Plano that has a great variety of fish including sushi grade tuna and salmon. They also have cod (great for fish & chips). I expect most of it is frozen especially due to the high temperatures in Texas (75F currently, 82F due to be the high).

If you cook it yourself, you can find some good fish.

Maybe I should open a fish & chip shop, though I don't think there'll be much call for mushy peas and steak & kidney pies here. :)

Oh I wish I knew how to batter up a nice bit of fish! cry

I'd have to see someone do it... I'm always scared it's not cooked (well I made it once)!

Chips however, are not a problem! P

Have a look in the food and drink forum. several recipes I believe.

Beest makes awesome battered cod.

Thanks for the rec, but my family (kids and husband) are not normal eaters.

I just took a beautiful 18lb turkey out of the oven because I am woeking 11pm till 7am tonight.

My sons want Spanish rice with it, yep... out of a box.

My daughter isn't eating meat anymore because a band she likes said it is wrong.

My husband never eats anything re-heated. I have work tomorrow night too, in fact I wont have a night off untill Dec 1st. God forbid I should sleep.

I have vegetables that daughter will love, but the other 3 only eat frozen corn (cooked of course, well boiled)

If anyone wants to come to my house and eat there is a fridge full of food. Last year I made the meal and then took it out of state on the roof of a Ford Explorer. They ate it then?

I'm lucky that tonight we are all bringing something and making a nice big meal at work. Nothing goes better with turkey than blood, drunks and hookers right?

I'll make cabbage, green beans and mashed potatoes when I get home tomorrow and they can take turns stirring the rice.

One day I'll have daughters and sons in law, grandchildren and maybe a few extras. I will be so happy to make a great big meal for anyone that will actually eat it.
I have had Barrimundi in Phillip Island, nice fish...

Time to move this to the food forum.
