How come you don't go watch it at the cinema?

I can't really do horror movies except at home - too embarrassing as I jump too much in them.
Seen two good movies this month. "Eastern Promises" and "We own the night". Both were worth the $8 to get into the mid week matinee showing. We are going to see "Gone baby gone" this week. At this time of the year some of the best movies are released.
Still prefer the big screen to watching on the TV. When we go it's almost like have a private viewing, rarely are there more than 2 dozen people. We have an AMC complex within 5 mins walk.
I've given up watching US made horror movies - they're too similar both in look and usually in plot, its as if the studios producing them thought "Hey, this one was successful, lets make another one exactly like it." (BUt that wouldn't happen, surely? roll )
Wes Cravens Scream movie pointed this, and many other facts out about the modern horror movies it sought to spoof and then fell into the same trap. I always thought that atmosphere and intrigue we what made a good horror movie(Along with brains/guts/eyeballs coming out) but now its like going to the fun fair and queuing up to get on a rollercoaster - only trouble is it turns out to be the kiddie rollercoaster and you look up in disbelief to see yourself surrounded by 8 year olds and giggling teenagers.
Of course, without seeing a movie its hard to comment, but after living here a couple of years you can tell what movies are going to do well at theatres at what ones the masses will, in their comfortable drove, stay away from. And the trailer for thirty days.. gives one a feeling of terrible dejavu..
we just watched History of Violence- which, even though its not a horror movie at all- does have some horrific elements to it and does make some really interesting points about violence- and involves you, the viewer, almost as a participant in them. Not to everyones taste i'm sure but I've been a fan of David Cronenberg for a long time and am looking forward immensely to Eastern Promises.
Give me a movie with meat on its bones and I'll make the gravy! D
