Do you think the internet will soon come to a saturation point?
I can't imagine such a thing happening but then when I see a large number of sites all dealing with the same issue, or one or two sites dominating searches, I do wonder whether we are reaching the point where the internet is almost at its biggest point.
Or is is just because of where we live. Will things change when other parts of the world catch up?
the internet must be one of the best inventions of all time. It really is an amazing tool.
I'll get back to you when I'm done with all the sites about amazing tools ;)
No. Not whilst they're working on the new computer that can answer the question before you ask it mrgreen

you will have to excuse me, all this porn will not download itself.
It will never be *full up * there will always be other subjects not quite fashonable getting more attention and other sites with a differant slant on subjects already popular .
Its like saying will there ever be a time when there wont be room for more *religions * they all follow/talk /discuss / worship the same god dont they?
I was reading something at the weekend about the possibility of people replacing TV's with computers and downloading programs as and when they please.
Some "experts" view this possibility with alarm because they do think that the internet will be overloaded if there are mass and routine video downloads.
Personally, I lack any expertise whatsoever in this area, and given the quality of the TV shows, doubt it will be a problem for me anyhow.
I agree with this point. I receive hundreds of TV channels and 99% of them I do not watch. At some point some time someone will devise a way for people to pay for the content they actually want to watch...just like an AV version of the internet.....sans pop ups obviously.
I don't mind paying the money, I just don't like paying to have the option of seeing Marie Osmond selling dolls.
I hear you with the TV thing EEB. A few years ago there was a move to control the distribution of media and allow people to choose exactly the channels they wanted and only pay for those.
I was over the moon, no sports( you can't get cricket without paying extra, and that ain't cricket to me) no sales and more than anything, no religion.
Needless to say the proposition didn't go through.
The Christian Right pointed out that their channels, scattered throughout all blocks of sports, sales etc, would be gone from the screen and suicidal tv viewers who might be saved whilst surfing thru all the channels would be lost to death and not brought to Jesus.
Weakest argument I've ever heard but it worked.......
Oh hang on, there was an argument about weapons being found somewhere, that worked too. roll

complete bollox, it is no the job of TV to save losers lives, and if they are saved by the shiny suit wearing evangalists then long term they are doomed anyway
It was the same in the UK, except without the religion.
Some years ago there was a move to force cable and satellite to sell channel 'a la carte' as well as in packages.
Murdoch flipped, realizing that he is already forced to carry the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 and that there was a real risk that people would pick those channels and reject the utter tosh that he otherwise puts out. Right now people have to pay for the crap, even if they never watch it.
Needless to say, Murdoch strong armed the Government in the UK and the proposals died and swift death.
I suspect that is the real reason here too. We get over 200 channels, I doubt we watch 20 of them. But to get what we want we have to receive the others.

It's called "preemptive computing" and is probably at work right now on your XP, Vista, Linux or whatever OS. They will try to guess what you're going to do next and try to be ready for it. You can find information on preemptive computing on wikipedia.

We don't ever watch tv. Haven't had any reception for years now.
It's a personal choice but listening to folks complaining about paying for things they never watch, I think we have made the right choice.
We do however have a DVD player, and we also watch news and movies on the computer.
I don't fear the Internet reaching saturation point, but I do fear that one day, some body of some government will start to determine just what we can receive or not receive on our home computers and take steps to control our access to the net.
