Anyone else watching this??

It's actually quite entertaining....just waiting to see if Beckham gets off the subs bench.

Debs x -)
isn't McLaren there?

if he is I reckon he'll come off the bench.
Well, the boy didn't disgrace himself and the commentators seemed impressed with his performance......they did make a good point though, how will Becks be up to par playing for England again if he's only playing with a poor quality US side?

Perhaps he'll be giving Robbie Williams a call....!?

Debs x -)

Oh, and LOL at the banner "We sing better than your wife"!!!!!!!
I doubt I'd disgrace myself playing for that team.
Watched the game of course (UNITED ) is my team and im glad they won ..

Beckham was hamming it up on the sidelines and they actually had a * beckham cam * small screen so you could watch him stretch his leg ..LOL
They milked it for all it was worth and he did finally get on the field not that his team did much better and he never once contacted any of the opposition , for christssake he might get injured more than he already is ..

Seriously though his presence will do a lot of good for a much under appreciated sport in the US and will bring in the crowds .
the DC game was a record attendance for a mls game
unfortunatly he is playing for a MLS team that will proberly not make the playoffs ..
so his presence will deminish somewhat .

the word is that Victoria would not agree to live anywhere but LA so the chance to play beckham in a more successfull side was eliminated .

Final score UNITED 1 GALAXY 0
It's still bad footy though John isn't it........
I mean, I think even the US football fan would rather sit at home and watch a decent game on FSC than watch MLS kack.

I'm glad Freddy Adu went to Benfica, I think it'll do the kid the world of good after his successful U-20 world cup appearances.

Agree with all your statements there mate

but the only way to get US footy *better * is to get somebody like beckham to participate and when the crowds start to come and the media takes more notice the funds to inprove the game will start to flow .
at the moment in the us footy is a 2nd class sport

Hit the nail on the head there. Sure, it'll take a good few years to get the standard up and for it to get any recognition, but what can you do? Its better than nothing.

Its like watching kids play. Watching a bunch of Americans running around trying to kick a ball, its awful.

Especially when we've got the Premiership and La Liga on TV and fitting in a few live games on those trips back home.

I also think the absence of rivalries in the game doesn't help.
Half the attraction of the game around the world for fans is that most cities have 2 or 3 top flight teams.

How can Real Salt Lake take a decent contingent of away fans to Columbus?

You need the rivalries, it is why college sports is so appealing..........
If you take your team, DC United, you need another team in Baltimore, one in maybe Richmond (just elevate the Kickers to MLS) a team in Wilmington and a team in Philly.

For Columbus, you need a team in Detroit, Cleveland, Cincy, Indy and add it too the Chicago Fire, and I'd say St Louis.

use smaller, maybe even high school stadiums, because watching a game in Giants stadium 3/4 empty is about as much fun as having Dengue Fever.

It's worth a shot I think, otherwise the players in Europe will just use the yanks as a
pre retirement last big payday.......... and that's what the NASL was and eventually it collaprsed.
