Our kids love smoothies. We have a few places locally that you can buy them but there is one, Tropical Smoothie, that makes them with fresh fruit rather than a syrup additive. They really are lovely but expensive.
So we try to make them at home. So far we have used a combination of fresh pineapple, bananas and strawberries, and sometimes add a little milk or orange juice. Then lots of ice.
Has anyone else got into smoothies? Do you just stick to fruit ones or do you add protein powder or anything like that to yours?
What are your favorites? Mine is generally one with either orange juice or pineapple in it to give a nice tang to the smoothie )
Him indoors loves em and makes em. He uses plain yoghurt if we have it in or soy milk and always adds a banana cos it makes them thick and creamy. That's all I know.
I used to make them ages ago when I still lived at my folks. I've been trying to recreate them more recently but our blender is just a crappy cheap thing which just throws everything to the sides so the blades spin in the resultant void.
I used to use yogurt, milk, ice cream, and a banana.
I used to like them but I think it was a fad. They do have quite a few calories and I prefer eating food rather than drinking it.
Dianey JR still misuses my blender quite a lot making different stuff.
I've tried making them, but 25% of it sticks to the sides of the blender so I feel it's wasted.
The ones at the mall I found use sugar water, which would account for the nice taste but heavy dentistry bill.
Trader Joes sells nice smoothies - I like the green one which is full of healthy stuff and yet tastes yummy only $1.99.
It's the yummy stuff that'll kill ya
Have the Smoothie book . . .love it, done the Johhnnie way
Love Fanny

More ice Stel, more ice, after you drained it a few cubes and a quick whizz and you'll have it all away.
(is it me or does that sound rude)

I chop up (roughly) the fruit combo's and store them in the freezer in plastic boxes. When it's time to make the smoothie, I pop the frozen fruit into the blender with yoghurt and some kind of juice/soda. Because the fruit is already frozen, there is no need for ice cubes.

That sounds interesting, Ameriscot. What types of soda do you use? Have you done it with just seltzer water? some of our fruit is frozen and some is fresh. It depends on what I can get at what price.
Fizzy lemonade... American cream soda... - anything reasonably subtle.
