Does anybody know how to get the residue of olive oil out of a glass bottle?
I bought these Italian glass bottles from Cost Plus world market a few years back and have used them for storing olive and veggie oils. I now have dark bottles which I can leave on the counter out of direct sun. So I thought I'd clean the clear glass bottles and use them for Lemoncello. roll
I can't get the oil out. It's sort of hazy on the glass. They're quite ornate, pressed not blown, and bloody annoying.
Does anyone have any ideas?
I've used hot soapy water, hot water and vinegar, hot water, no results. There has to be some trick out there, help please?
Annie, try GUNK engine degreaser, from the Auto store.Or Driveway cleaner from Sears or the local hardware store. These products are great for getting engine oil and grease off your driveway or engine and should zap stuff like olive oil.
Spray it in the bottle, let it soak in, then wash it out.
Borax

Is that your reply to johnr's post above
I not sure about the gunk suggestion

I have Borax, I'll try that first, thankyou Dianey
To be honest, I don't know if it will work.

But I did watch How Clean Is Your House on BBC America today.

It did shift some nasty grot from a vase I had forgotten to clean out since I moved two years ago though.

Well that's certainly stripped a layer from my eyeballs.....

Tried Bleach yet??
Anything like bleach would have to be eradicated completly before using the glass to store food stuff .. i would,nt touch it

Thanks Dianey it worked perfectly. I put some Borax in the bottom of the bottle, poured in hot water, left it overnight, and bingo, this morning, sparkling clean. Thanks again.

Oh I'm glad. Must admit on the days I'm home during the day I like watching How Clean is Your House because they do come up with non-commercial cleaning methods and I've found some do work.
I like to watch it cos it makes me feel better about the state of my basement!!
