I sometimes take the cover off a book when reading but only because it often slides around when I'm lying in bed reading.
As far as getting a book that is un-handled by customers, this is fine in theory but only really practical for books that come in by the box load. You'd be surprised how many books get dropped and handled over and over again before they reach the shelves. Sometimes books will come in the store in what appears to be a used condition. Amazing really.
Not really for us but if we want it amazon will have it and we have a $25 gift certificate to spend there .
there will ALWAYS be enought copies for those that want one even it means waiting ...
the news burb that they will run out of stock is a marketing ploy.planed months ahead

Run out? It's stacked ceiling high in Walmart.

perhaps the buyers didn't realize reading was a required skill for that must have item ;)

At a Minnesota Target this was being sold for $18.99.
Our friends bought a copy, but John refrained for some reason.
There will always be enough books printed so I cannot see waiting all night for one...

Personally, I wait until books are published in mass paperback editions then go to Amazon Online and buy a used copy. My large home library is massive and I need the smaller books as I am running out of room now and have no space left for more book cases. many shelves contain doubled up books as it is. Mr Melhug and I do not watch TV but do read many, many books.

The content is usually the same for both hard and soft cover and paper backs are easier to hold when you have arthritis etc.

As for Harry Potter, I will wait for that one just as I wait for others... or if I see it in the library when the bruhaha has died down I will check it out then. 8)

I got bored with Coben. But I was excited to find the latest Carl Hiaasen at the library this week. It's OK, but not as good as the earlier stuff. Also MIL just brought me the latest Jilly Cooper. same thing. But it's so hard to find new "must read" authors.

I expect she might not be your choice of authors but have you tried Jody Picoult?

Did you hear, by the way, that there are a few hundred Harry Potter books that have pages missing

Hubby and daughter are sharing the reading of Harry Potter. We picked a copy up from Target Saturday morning about 10am when the place was almost empty :)

Seems like Target had the cheapest cover price as well $17.99, we paid $18.49 from B&N and that was with a members discount....bastards.

They were 40% off cover price. I think tomorrow they go to 30% off cover. The Bastards.......if you don't like the price, don't buy it. Or you could just wait and pay the $35 marked.
My missus got her copy on Saturday night, she reserved it at Barnes & Noble and got some kind of discount. She finished it on Monday evening between reading and blubbing wink
I dunno if I'm going to read it if there's all those tears!! It'll be like reading Dr.Who all over again!! wink
Borrowed a copy from a friend. started just after 5, about halfway through.....
Things must be real bad tonight that I am reading a thread about Harry Potter roll

Of course it could be worse, as I may have to read a thread about sports,Whew!!! roll razz wink
