I saw this on CNN but dug this account up from the LA times;

http//www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-king20may20,0,6057993.story?page=1&coll=la-home-center

It's a story of a woman who went into the ER three times with complaints but died whilst waiting.

I don't believe I saw anything on CNN about the woman also being taken into police custody. The story is about three pages long and you may have to register with the LA times. It says something about a society where people are far more willing to take you to jail than to save your life. I wonder why they won't release the video tape - apparently the whole event is on tape.

sad
This sums up the essence of American society.
It is a bit sensational but I think you are right. If you are rich enough then America has got to be the best place in the world to live. If you are poor, struggling through your fault or not it is a very tough place to live.
They they spoke to that woman who called into 911 was typical, the way the nurse became angry was typical and next the lawsuit and jail sentence for everbody and their cat is typical.

America is an "I" country while e very other society is a "we".

Actually it is not so much the poor as the middle classes who suffer most. "The poor" (however you define that) can be entitled to various schemes, such as medicaid, which are not available to the middle classes. However the middle classes bear a disproportionate share of the tax burden.

The "rich" are above all of this.

I stand corrected and on reflection....(this is me reflecting) agree.

I'd rather be able to show up to a hospital that wasn't a county hospital with an insurance card, something most of the middle class are holders of and get treatment. If paying a higher tax rate proportionately than anyone else is the price so be it. At least I know I'm entitled to healthcare.

The most likely reason this woman was turned away is because she didn't have insurance and it was an understaffed, underfunded county hospital. For this woman not to be admitted and taken back for further evaluation was morally, ethically and legally wrong.

I would love to see the video tape evidence.

And the fact that the county cops arrested a corpse is just beyond belief. :sad:

This is part of the reason for all you "positive" posters about the USA that I will never really be at peace with this country, never really truly be happy to be here.

There's just too many people that have no respect or compassion for their fellow human being.

Christian country indeed.

Whether or not it's Chritian I don't know, but it's noy the first time this hospital has done this. Bloody disgraceful by any standards.
