I'm sure most have you have heard of this story if you check in with British news sites regularly. This story has been going on for about three weeks.
The strange thing about the story to my mind is that nobody in the press has come out and said "WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING! You don't leave three preschoolers in an apartment alone whilst you go out and drink!"
I wonder if it had been a chav couple holidaying Benidorm with their well scrounged Income Support whether there would have been the same amount of sympathy for a child abducted whilst their parents were eating and drinking "only 100 yards away"
I hear you Dianey, we've visit this sleepy resort back in 94'I suppose they thought they were safe.
How the hell they could think that, even when my kids asleep upstairs I'd check on them several times if we were at home.
If any of those poor mites woke, wouldn't it freak them out to find they were on their own. What if one was sick.
I guess they are now paying the ultimate price for their stupidity.
Im following this story and im aware of the comments directed at the couple for leaving thier child unatended .im also aware of the press conferance where the parents admitted the quilt they felf for leaving the child alone .
they where on vacation thought they were in a safe environment and stepped out a few yards away to have lunch ..)is that a acceptable excuse ???
there must have been a preditor stalking the child * or perhaps many children just waiting for the right moment to snatch one of them *
sad story .
I've been following this as well and feel as angry as you both do.
People seem to get more upset about animals being mistreated than neglect of young children. They are both doctors for heavens sake........they should have more intelligence. Although (and di you will probably agree with me) having worked side by side with so many docs over the years I realise being intelligent has nothing to do with having any real common sense either roll
There should be mandatory parenting classes for all people before they have children whatever their status in life, that's my opinion evil
don't think its anything to do with Intelligence Cel, its just plan common sense and thats something you cannot really teach or get a qualification in I am afraid. Something I have seen declining over the last 20 years or so.
Hope they find her safe soon and that she is ok. Those scars can run very deep .
I don't get it either. It would have been pefectly acceptable to take the kids with them, OK, maybe they would have had to teach the kids manners and spend time with them, but hell, holiday camps are for lazy parents, I find the leaving of the kid weird beyond reason.
I also agree.
I also find it strange that someone knew there were unattended kids in that room and broke in to take onee.
1) makes you think it was a regular occurrence
2) makes you think there might be insider knowledge at work
3) make you go Hmmmm?
Think annie hit it on the head, you would have to teach the kid manners and in this me me me society we have people don't have time for that any more. Makes you wonder how the next generation will grow up
And wasn't the report tht they were gone for hours, more than just 'dinner' time frame?
what I do not understand was there a forced entry to the place they were staying and thats how they know Madeleine was taken??
I often get mad with parents when I see them letting their kids wonder round and not being looked after at holiday places. Because it looks like paradise, does not stop perves from being around, but you have other dangers like wild animals, just getting lost and falling or washed out to sea.
I read that they had left the sliding patio doors unlocked so that they could keep going back and checking on the little ones without using the main door. I have to say we have never left Lucy alone for a second either in the house or in a hotel room. She comes to dinner with us, and if we want a drink afterwards we get a bottle of wine and take it to our room. When you are blessed with children it is your responsibility to look after them, not leave them alone just so you can have an uninterrupted dinner with some mates.
I know they are ridden with guilt and whatever the outcome they will never forgive themselves but, ah, words fail me.
Hope they find her soon....safe and well would be a bonus.
Debs x sad
I heard the Pope was going to meet with the parents. ???
Seems you're correct, Annie.
I agree with everyone's sentiments. I can't imagine the level of guilt and anguish the parents are feeling right now, but neither can I understand their mentality. To leave their young children unattended while they dined in "a nearby restaurant" was utterly irresponsible. As a parent, you're called upon to make risk assessments every day regarding your child/childrens' safety, especially when they're so young. It's a tragedy the McCanns made such a bad call.
I'm also inclined to agree with dianey; if the parents had been chavs and not a so-called professional couple, I believe the media would've torn them to shreds in the first instance.
My friend, her husband and their little girl (who bears a striking resemblance in age and appearance to Madeleine McCann ) were vacationing in the Algarve at the time of Madeleine's abduction and they said not one official stopped and questioned them for the remainder of their vacation (10 days). They were, however, stopped and questioned at Glasgow Airport upon their return to the UK.
Sad story indeed. Hopefully it'll have a happy ending.
I suppose if there's one thing her disappearance has highlighted, its the issue of child trafficking. I'll bet the average Joe going to the Algarve didn't know it existed.
I hope they find her but as each day goes by it doesn't look likely.
The thing is, I've read a lot of differing reports. The tapas bar seemed to be quickly renamed a restaurant. I think they were not really eating just dinner, but out drinking at the tapas bar for quite a while. Then there is the door open/not open thing, then there is always the differing distance away that they actually were from their kids, some reports said silly stuff like "40 paces away" some said 50 yards, some said 100 yards. All just seems a bit fishy.
Like as always the press give conflicting reports which doesnt help in any way .
if they dont get any info from the police ( and unlike in america the police in europe are usually tight lipped) the press make things up .
calling them ( the police ) inefficent doesnt help like the natalie holloway case in aruba . the police have been slandered as inefficent ..
just because they havnt found her ????
many children are reported missing every year in the US and not all of them are found does that make US police inneficent ???
last report i read was the door was locked and they believe the child woke up opened the door and walked into unknown territory .as i understand it the beach is not far away from the resort ..
who knows the truth ???
lets hope she is found blaming the perants , trashing the police, and praying to god wont help .... assisting the police might .
