I cannot put everyone into the same basket, but I don't think I ever loved America to begin with. There is a difference between need and love. I much rather be in OZ or Spain-not France. Zapatero, the president of Spain, has said this week on Elpais, that he is proud that Europeans are choosing Spain as a permanent destination-I wonder how long that will last?

People aren't coming here because it's almost impossible since 9/11.

Unless you come across the southern border .

Its funny when you talk about wanting to come or love to be somewhere else as posh said. To me its just a place. I came here because of the love of my life lol.
Was offered a job in Oz two weeks before I moved here, was not even looking at moving there.

My cousin spent two years in Oz and hated it. Each person is different.

I tend to think people rush to the UK because they think they will get something for nothing and normally they do lol
I hate to state the blindingly obvious, but I can't see why anyone is surprised that more british people are moving within the EU and more non-UK EU citizens are coming to the UK.
Free movement of people, goods and services is what the "single market" was intended to cause.

If you want to move to France or Spain or anywherein the EU, there are minimal restrictions.... compare adn contrast with coming to the US.

With OZ, if you are the right age and have the right skills (and are a white european who speaks english like a native) they will all but pay your airfare.
The BBC recently did a breakdown of this very subject John. It shows people are going to Spain and Australia over the U.S

Also, if you look at the figures on a per capita basis, almost the same amount of Brits are coming to Canada as the U.S despite the fact the population here (in Canada) is about 10 times less than the U.S

Also anecdotally, as Rob has pointed out loads and loads of Brits are buying property in France, Spain etc. and then flying down to them on cheap Ryanair flights. They're sort of half in and half out. The bloke who was the jockey, turned East End cabbie in 49Up now spends most of his time in Spain.

As Rob S says, free movement of goods, people, cheap property, sunshine. It's a seductive mix.
