Surprised no one has really posted anything on this lol.
As much as I think the UK is right on this one i.e that they were at the place they said they was. I do have some questions.
1- Knowing that it was a sensitive area, why were the boarding party allowed to operate that far away from the mother ship?
2- Why did the radar operators not pick up the movement of the Iranian boats approaching the Brits position? If they had detected something was happening earlier they could have positioned themselves to tackle the task.
3- Why did they not ask for air support or something?
4- where are our European friends in this situation? why are they not saying let them go or else.
5- the UN's answer was abit weak considering the Brits were doing the UN's work.
I know its all an international game, but sometimes yea just need abit of gun boat diplomacy to get things done .
Just thoughts. Hopefully they will be home soon
Funny you should post that Goose, I was just listening to this on the beeb whilst making tonights meal. Georgie was being DIPLOMATIC, he insisted, he decided, he was a right pr*ck. The man has no idea of intonation.
I, myself, was wondering if Tony had sold out and facilitated the war with Iran for two individual lecture tours, residency and a house.
Can you believe nationalization, or citizenship, whatever it's called, is up this year for America.
Did I miss something?
Ididnt post cus i though it would go away , if the press and world opinion left it alone ..unfortunatly that didnt happen .
one of theses intances where we moight never know the rteal truth of what happened if they dodnt stray into iranian waters they at least gave the iranians a opportunity to throw a trantrum .
the brits should be released wether they trespased or not, its not that much of a big deal ,not as if they where on land and spying opon there iraniaum / atomic /sorry power plants .
a appology should suffice . if they dont release them or take to harm them *nuke umm* cant mess with her majestys citizens like that ..
what happened to the might power and glory of the empire .......
RULE BRITANNIA .
smile
Thought that there may have been a bigger reply from the EU, put guess they are more concerned with their own national interests in the region.
One big reason why the EU is doomed as an organization. Your own interests top any friendships you may have. I will give the french some slaps on the back, they where one of the first countries that said give them back, but now they are all quiet.
You would have thought that calls for a complete import and export ban would be in order and maybe seizing finaincial assets.
Ummm not into making people glow in the dark john, but I would send a cruise missile over. No explosives the first time to maybe just knock on the door in a polite diplomatic way, with a letter saying the next one will be packed with explosive with your name on it lol, so be a nice chap and do the right thing lol
Cut off their supply of Caburys and Coca-Cola that should fix them.
I heard that the EU was giving strong support, but diplomatically, not shouting it like the George and Tony music hall act. Tony has backed Iran and Britain up until there is little room for either to yield without a huge loss of face.
Both sides have produced pictures of GPS, showing where they claim the event took place, but they are meaningles because there is no chain of evidence linking them to the event.
Countries are always testing the water. When I was stationed in Germany, a flight of Migs crossed the border between the Soviet and British zones, every Friday lunchtime. The British would scramble and meet them and inform them that they had strayed, the migs would turn back. If things were deteriorating, the reception would have been hotter, going up to shooting across the bows, and ultimately, shooting them down. Little incidents like that are offered around the world, actions speak louder than words.
Remember the history of interference with the governments of Iran, the backing of Saddam in his war with Iran, and the fact that what looks like 80+% of its borders are countries or sea, occupied by America and/or it's lackies.
I thought that all gps devices work from the same sat's i.e those that belong to the US. I fact during the 1st golf war I remember the US placing heavy restrictions on them to the point that a friends boat seemed to indicate he was in central london, rather than in the med lol.
That is way there is a big deal about europe having an seperate system up there.
I am sure the correct data can be gained if you thought yea equipment was not functing correct. I place more truth about what the Brits are saying, not saying that they are not up to some ducking and diving, but if they done that think they would really be doing it with special forces and on the quiet. Not sending a routing boarding party to inspect a ship under the un charter.
I do remember some years back when the marines invaded spain once cuz they got the directions wrong, was meant to be Gib lol.
Still Iran is trying to pull a fastone and they should in no uncertain terms, its not the way to impress anyone. Tend to think they are looking for some grieve, but don't have the guts to just come out and do it. They want to be able to say, see what the big bad west has done to us lets get them back. Would not be surprised if they don't have film and a cover story telling people that we killed a whole bunch of old folks cuz we targeted an old folks home lol
Sick sick world it is

What assures you that thes are not special forces?
The Iranians are concerned that there is terrorist activity in Iran, just across the border from the British held ares of Iraq. They are convened that it is being fomented by the Brits.
believe me they are not special forces
They are convened that it is being fomented by the Brits.
I see it's catching..... ;)
Thankfully the UK Health Secretary had something to say about the issue -
"It was deplorable that the woman hostage should be shown smoking. This sends completely the wrong message to our young people."
roll
I'm also somewhat amused at the UK press lambasting the showing of the 15 soldiers on tv in the Middle East - whilst showing the exact same thing themselves every 10 minutes.
"It was deplorable that the woman hostage should be shown smoking. This sends completely the wrong message to our young people."
Not content with ballsing up the NHS now she says something like this?
They fly home tomorrow to the uk .
its over just the retoric left to handle ... smile
Something enormously surprising to me was the press reaction in the UK and Europe to this. There were plenty of editorials in the Guardian and Independent that were in no way sympathetic to the UK opinion. European opinion was even less sympathetic from what I read.
