Full Version: What's with the Weetabix?

Over the last few weeks a couple of monster billboards for 'organic' Weetabix have appeared in Austin, Texas.

Today at the Capitol 10K run, every runner was given a granola bar and a two-pack of Weetabix after the run. Okay, now my memory is hazy, but shouldn't Weetabix be eaten with milk? There were no instructions on the packet about this, but it was sort of amusing to watch several people choking on dry Weetabix.

So is this really bad marketing, or am I right about the milk?
you're right about the milk. grin

It's all about roughage and the glycemic index.

Did you run?
I used to spread butter and jam on weetabix, it goes soggy with milk. I drank the milk from a cup. They used to carry weetabix in the cereal aisle at my supermarket, now its in the organic section.
LS, did you ever eat sugar butties?
Yes, but not often, sugar was rationed. Never mind, we had the joys of cod liver oil and malt. grin
Havnt seen the adds ( here in austin ) but then i pay scarse attn to ads and read the news on line .

yes you eat it with milk never did much care for it so cant be sure exactly what the reason was
My kids eat Weetabix. With milk. The Organic line they're pushing is made in Canada. (We live near there.) It's much yellower than British Weetabix.

We used to be able to get it here easily for $3 -$3.50 for 24, then it all but disappearred, but now Trader Joes's have started stocking it for $2.49 we are happy bunnies. But you gotta have milk.

That said, I used to eat dry Weetabix when I was a kid because I'm allergic to milk. It's not too bad, but you do need a drink with it. before we discovered my allergy, I used to eat it with milk and lyle's golden syrup or sugar.

Regarding giving out Weetabix after the race, I would not have automatically asumed that all freebies were for immediate use. Just because it looked like it might be a snack food.... What a shame they didn't give out cup-a-soups -that would have been funny!

Gosh, you remind me, sugar cubes with tonges,(sp) and the posh aunties always has colored sugar cubes

And Metatone, known to cure everything that ever ailed you, and TCP, perfect for an amputated arm. Gawd, we got by on a wing and a prayer.
I hate the advertising of drugs, I mean we should know about there exsistence, but when people watch the ads out of boredom and go get the drugs for diseases they don't have. I can't say more, lets say I know someone who tries every new sleep aid, happy drug, digestive aid, known to man, and she's ten years younger than me and proud of her pill purse. Me I was proud to not take anything until last year.

Yes I did, and I suspect today I shall pay the price!

We get Weetabix here in the health food aisles, again it is the Canadian "organic" variety. Costs about $4 a box.
I pick mine up from Trader Joe's or at Cost Plus, $1.99 a box, handy, as it is my fave right now !!
Well it's been available as an import in Austin for some years now, but we seem to have become some sort of target market for a mainstream launch of the product. Another friend told me today she has seen TV commercials for it.

You'd think they'd mention it's a cereal or something, though. The two billboards I've seen are huge, and three-dimensional. In other words, expensive. I'll try and get a pic of one in the next day or two.

perhaps they're waiting to see what people who buy it want it to be, then they'll market it as that! It is a little unusual for them not to spell it out. Usually it's overkill on the explanation to make sure even Dense Daisy at the Diner gets it.

It'll never catch on over here unless they frost it and disguise the health benefits with a sugar/chemicaly sweetened coating. roll
