My daughter jsut put a song on our phone to use as a ringtone. When I remarked that it was distorted and I didn't want to listen to a song through a telephone, a flash of memory came back and the phrase "dial-a-disc" came to mind. Back in those days I really did listen to music through the telephone!

Does anyone else remember doing that? There was also dial-a-story for children I think.
OMG, I had totally forgotton about that!
Oh yes! That was a really hip and groovy way of listening to the latest chart stuff!!!!

Lookie here!

Every Tuesday at school I would take my trannie in and snake the earpiece lead up my sleeve (this was during the extremely boring maths lesson!) and listen to the top 40 rundown, scribbling it down to be typed up later on that night. In the evening I would do the same thing with the Radio Luxemburg chart rundown, which was a wee bit different, again typing it up for perusal at school the following day. I still have some of those papers somewhere along with a couple of Jackie and Fab208 annuals and various copies of Disco 45 and Words songbook mags!!!!

Old fart regards.....

Loon Pants rule - OK!
I used to write the top 40 down too. I have no idea why. I reckon I still have some of them stashed away in the basement. If I ever find them I will scan and share! lol
I missed a lot by leaving when I did, didn't I ?
I don't remember those, but I do remember the adventure books where you picked what page to go to next.

- If you try to run away turn to page 112.
- If you hit the badger with the sword, turn to page 205.
- if you bribe the badger with tasty cookies, turn to page 165.
- If you decide to touch the badger with your winkie, then stop it.
Ah, Fighting Fantasy. Those were the days. The Lonewolf books weren't bad either.

If you have the golden amulet which you only got if you went the right way at the start, turn to 354. Otherwise, tough luck matey, you're dead.

I do remember 'clubcall' which had interviews and reports and stuff about your favorite football team.

The Tuesday chart was on during our lunch hour in the 5th form and we were allowed to have a radio so we used to go into an empty mobile to listen to Johnny Walker. At the end of TOTP I used to yell at my mum to write down the charts for me a they did the countdown at the end (back then they did the whole lot in one go, not in dribs and drabs as they did later). She wrote in shorthand so she could do it fast enough and then I'd help her translate it back into English.
