Hello all,
I hope someone might be able to help!

We are hoping to move to Atlanta (just outside it) within the next few months and wondered if anyone might know of any insurers that might take into consideration our UK driving history? Is it worth obtaining some sort of documentation from the DVLA to say we are worthy??????

Weve tried to get a quote off the web but they need our driving licence number and obviously we dont hav one as yet too so this has proved a problem when trying to do a rough budget for it. We also dont know if its just as expensive to insure a new car as an old car???

Any companies worth a go???

I just actually want to be able to afford my mortgage as well as drive a car if thats realistic.........ho ho! lol

many thanks!!!!
When I came to the US (Massachusetts) I didn't need a US license to obtain insurance. The problem is that you may not get any credit for you UK driving record and thus pay a higher premium.
What I did was get a copy of my license and the criminal record letter you need anyway for immigration and then got a Solicitor to write a letter explaining that I had no endorsements (points) on my license and no criminal records - therefore I had a clean record.
I had an advantage - I am a Solicitor so I could get a colleague to write the letter. You might need to ask around to see if anyone you know knows someone. I'd try for a criminal defense solicitor and agree a fixed fee for wrting the letter.
Good luck
Since we had little time to sort it out we went with a local branch of insurers where we could talk to them in person (they were also doing our house insurance). It was expensive, however some other car expenses like Tax and MOT don't seem to exist. (At least I havn't paid them !!!)
Also they wouldn't insure us without Alabama driving licences, so we also had to take driving tests first so I guess we are starting out as new drivers.

If you can find a good company to work with I would be interested to know !
