John Inman has died. (

I have fond memories of watching Are You Being Served with my Nana. He never pretended to be anything he wasn't, he wasn't afraid of being different, he always seemed to be having fun.
here, here !!
A very funny man. When the Britcoms first became popular they would bring him over for the pledge drives.

He was 71, why do I keep- noticing all of these people kicking off at that age. It didn't happen as often when I was 69 and 70.

That's because then you noted the 69 and 70-year olds! ;) He didn't die from "old age" though, so nothing to worry about yet. It's when they start describing it as "died at the ripe old age of...." that you should worry

----

Inman always played sissies, but in reality he must have been so strong. Even in the theatre, I don't hink it was easy for gays back then, and he'd been with his partner (whom he married in one of the first civil ceremonies in 2005) for 33 years. He seems like such a strange choice for a role model, but he managed to do what society makes it so hard for some of us to do -he was true to himself.

Very sad a extrodinary talented actor who will be dearly missed

*are you being served * was all that much greater of a series with him staring in it .

I suspect the show would not past muster as being PC in this day and age .

On the contrary John, it is repeated inteminably without complaint.
And given some of the sexist chauvanistic crap that passes for comedy (think CBS on Monday nights or fox on pretty much any night) - you're safely PC free for now...

Inman, was funny and will be missed.

Yes repeated yes i understand that not on the networks though ..

in my opinion it would.nt be produced nowadays ( for family tv ) i dont see much of the comedy stuff on the networks so could be mistaken there as i havnt seen any fox or cbs comedy shows for years .....

one place I look to for comedy now is hbo and real time with bill mayer ....

A wise move. Whatever you do, avoid "Rule of Engagement" and its ilk....

Very sad, but I still find it hard to believe he was 71, he certainly didn't look or act it.
As someone said he was true to himself throughout and although he didn't come out and say he was gay it was quietly acknowledged. Lovely chap.

I phrased it badly, I meant when. I was 69, I didn't see too many 69 year olds, keeling over, a few more 70 YOs when I was 70, but now I'm 71, there are lots of them kicking it. I think I will be watching 72YOs when you are 71.
