This is just batshit insane.

On April 2nd the UK government will kill ILE (Indefinite Leave to Enter). Now they have proposed some astronomical fee increases. Seriously insane increases. First, we paid £260 for my wife's settlement visa, which included ILE. That was it.

If these fees go through you would be paying £500 for a settlement visa with FLR and £750 (£950 if you do it in person) for ILR 2 years later (up from £335). Naturalisation is virtually tripling from £200 to £575. If you want to get married while you are in the country on a different type of visa you have to get a certificate of approval and can then marry in the CoE - going from £135 to £295.

Now, doesn't this just make it undesirable for foreign spouses of UK citizens to emigrate here? Foreign spouses of UK citizens who can't even move over unless they can prove that they won't access benefits? So, not the people that John Reed says he doesn't want moving here then?

Demented.

Oh, and they already doubled the rates 2 years ago to the former rates. Dildos.
They have upped their prices this way too, it costs a hell of a lot more for the process I have just gone through now than when I did it. For my son and I to go back through all the filings etc right up to the Perm Residence it would now cost us about double/triple the amount.
I don't care, I would give a kidney to get back home.
