I for one hadn't seen any mad
Why, because I refuse to pay a $40.00 fee to sit in uncomfortable seats, be fed nasty food and drink, be not permitted to smoke, or at least have a drink, whilst I attempt to watch a movie that strictly prohibits children under the age of 12 whilst a baby in the front row is crying.
When are the Oscars going to catch up?
Only those with the ability to watch the screenings privately are going to see these movies, unless you don't mind the above complaints, a mere two hours for two in bad company and surroundings, and under those conditions you could substitute a bad sitcom from a second rate channel.
The Oscars have, in my opinion, become eliteist. ( is that a word, it certainly doesn't spell like one).
Bring on more than downloads to your computer. Bring on a sudden rush of the nominations on DVD before the event.
I have to say though I did like Ellen Degeneres hosting the show, and also the emphasis on people other than the bling crowd and the "stars". I was thrilled to see editors and screenwriters recieving their awards, I'm afraid of how much fun I might have if the Mexican triad make loads more movies, and I loved the weird shadow ballet.

You forgot the arseholes who gibber on their cellphones too. The last time I went to a real actual cinema was to see The Phantom Menace and I slept through that.
Maybe I should open a cinema here where you can smoke and drink all you want. At least that way there'd be no whiny-ass children (or whiny-ass parents either) and I'd put up a Faraday Cage to stop cellphones too.
/and every Saturday night I would show Casablanca.
'Departed' was a decent movie though.... wink
I hadn't seen any. But would liek to rent The Queen and Last King of Scotland as well as Departed.
Must make it to Blockbuster.
Hahaha Scorsese got an award for directing a Remake. He practically invented modern cinema, with a few other directors, and this is what happens. Do you think the academy decided to do this because they thought people would work it out that giving a lifetime acheivement award to him just before he snuffs it might be seen as somewhat transparent and shallow and not really reflective of the guys monumental career?
To me, it all seems a bit of a waste of time. There are far more worthy movies out in the world than this stagnant puddle of sychophants will ever know about. I think its time they gave it a rest and let us all get on with our lives.(Which we were doing anyway)
And O'Toole didn't make on his eigth nomination.
I hadn't seen any of them. The last time I went to a cinema was to see Red October.
Havent seen most of them.
At least here we can have drinks and passable food at the movies.
Happy not to have smokers in the house. They shouldnt let little kids or babies in if it's not rated G.
Two things that shouldn't be allowed in the movies - Kids that talk and food. Whats that all about? We go to the movies to watch movies, not to eat crap. I guess eating takes your mind off bad movies but then you should bite your lip, admit you made a bad decision and just leave the theatre. roll
You know, I miss crappy cinemas. Our local flea pit had no heating and a hole in the screen as if somebody had kicked a football through it. The projector was old and the film would break all the time. The trouble with these multiplexes is that everything works fine. They don't make things easy for wheelchairs to get in though.
ahh, friday night ranting over with. shock
Only movie on the award list ive seen so far is "the departed " a scorsese masterpiece.
.I am waiting to see the "queen" and "last king of scotland " also on my list is *l a inconveniant truth".
a film going around that will scare the s**t out of you is "jesus camp " how much more screwed up our world would be if the " born again evangelicals "had complete control ....
The best way to see a movie is via a Drive In (Edmonton,Canada and Cape Cod,USA)
It is a pity we do not have them anymore sad
Gawd, my last drive in movie was in Venezuela, it had Chinese, Spanish and English subtitles and I can't even remember what it was, but it went down really well with the crowd who got out of their cars and boogied in appropiate scenes. Everything you could desire was brought to the car, food, drink, etc, and it was warm and balmy and a load of fun.
Makes those megaplexes with their high prices totally sterile and plastic.

There's one alive and well here in Columbus and it ain't half bad. The grub looks a bit dodgy though.

Departed was excellent.
We watched Jesus Camp last week and as you say...it's scary. Mind you I work with a few people who act like the parents on that movie
Just watched Zodiac in a mostly empty multiplex- rather good, straight from the book so a movie for people who don't read that sort of thing. Watched the trailer for Tarantinos new pic. "Grindhouse" funny as hell, a movie (Well, technically two) that embrace and fondly send up those drive-in/exploitation movies which should ideally be viewed in a drive-in, not, as will unfortunately happen, in the grim silence of an Ultrascreened megaplex. Sterile enviromentalism anyone?...
I forgot to put this up earlier, before the program..
I watched the BBC news on PBS, just before the Oscars. The newsreader ended with a piece about the large number of Brits that were nominated this year. He finished, looked down to pull his papers together, and then, with a sideways grin, said, "I wonder if the Queen will be watching."
