I was wondering what medication/supplements you take regularly - not in a nosey bastard way but more of a quick survey of what's the norm. What prompted this was a radio show I heard last night regards the huge number of daily drugs we all take these days. The argument of the show was that we are moving down a dangerous road of patching rather than preventing problems. So we take drugs to get through the day but don't bother to fix the underlying cause of the problem.
Add we take vitamins and suplements that have no strong empirical data to show they do anything at all, or that they are safe in some instances. The show ended by giving the increase in drugs given to control behaviour. Mostly it was an indictment of behavioral drugs given to kids "under the guise" (their quotes not mine) of ADA/ADD etc. So uppers in the morning, downers at night.
I take a loratidine and ranitidine every morning for allergies and acid reflux. I have two asthma inhalers which I also take daily. I also have to take eye medication for my eye problem. I also chug a multi-vitamin and a fish-oil pill because my wife makes me. When I am running alot and working out I don't need the pills at all and the asthma stuff less. But I like cakes and sitting down so I tend to have month long lapses where I don't run at all. I'm sure if I kept up running (which I really enjoy) I'd be almost drug free.
As for behavioural drugs - I don't have teenagers but if I did I would be tempted to give them something to shut the hell up. I do think they are given out waaay too frequently though.
Drugs scare me. I've taken enough recreational drugs throughout my youth and finally settled on Caffine as my drug of choice. Now, here, it feels like they want me to take drugs. Constant bombardment in advertising for stuff that they're not even sure of. And what the hell does "Significant Birth defect" mean? If they know what it is why don't they tell us? evil
Two inhalers for emphysema and a pill for enlarged prostate. I also take a glucosamine chondroitin for arthritis and a prostate supplement.
I took paxil for a while when I was depressed for good reason, and that allowed me, mentally, to go on to exercise and feel good enough to get off the paxil.
I avoid drugs too, and I didn't do them for recreation either, I like to be in control.
Beta blocker and BP med with plavix, to make my blood slippery and stop me crushing stents. BP med at bedtime to relax the arteries. Mostly my meds are to keep the vessels open.
Supplements, Stress B complex, occassionally a B12 sub lingual if I need a boost, I used to get a B12 shot every winter, but I hate shots and American docs don't believe the therapeutic benefit as much as European docs. Glucosamine and chondritin, for the joints, MSM in mega doses, to repair general damage, CoQ10, Perfect 7 fiber tabs, often a jarrowdophilus, especially if I've eaten out and consumed industrial food.
And never to be parted from, passiflora tincture, an anti-spasmodic, which helps when I get an attack and stops my need for more meds.
Recreational drugs, back in the 70's, these days I'm pretty much with Keith, drugs ain't what they used to be.

Caffeine and nicotine. And you can take those from my cold dead fingers.
Used to take Prozac when I was back in the UK but it had the unfortunate effects of completely destroying any interest I had in sex and turning my poop to water. So I decided that putting up with the occasional day where I snarl at people, bite their heads off for looking at me funny and then tearfully apologise to them afterwards was a fair trade off.
/hooray for mood swings
Like the rest of you I hate taking any drug, but take two tablets for high blood pressure, makes me laugh really, cuz my job back in the Uk was high pressure and I never had it then. Now i sit on my arse no real pressure to speak of and now I have high blood pressure. Doc said my body is just kicking back cuz its been used to working at one rate and I have suddenly changed it. He said he is also worried about my LDL's etc etc so i am now trying not to be be put on any thing for that.
To that end I am taking garlic and red rice yeast. Have a B12 jab each year as well.
Always tend to think we take stuff to count the reactions of other stuff. A friend of the wifes took a handful of tablets a day. She went to a new doc and he's got her down to 2 a day.

Goose, what do you reckon to the red rice yeast? My girlfriend is always trying to put me on it but says I should contact my doc first. She's afraid it might affect the BP meds. Well I can't contact the doc, cos I'm having a BIG blood panel in May when we hope my figures will move at least a digit. They remained exactly the same through the critical part of my illness to maintenance. So the docs suspicious. Now we're looking for something else that would make it so. Homocysteine or some such thing, we tried to decipher the docs shorthand and only got a couple of the tests, however, they take 3 weeks to process not the usual few days, so I have to be up and running by May 1st with a lowered, I'm borderline all the way round, cholesterol level.
I'm tired of exercising, eating carefully, eating bloody oatmeal, I feel no difference and I wonder if you do from the red rice yeast?
My gal pal tells me she could tell the difference within days.
No medication, just caffeine. Mountain Dew gets me through the day...
Just vitamins, Shaklee daily packs and extra calcium/iron until this little bean popped up smile and now just take the prenatal and extra calcium. I would normally say caffeine but right now cannot stand the aroma. sad
None on a regular basis. Will sometimes pop a unisom for sleep or advil for an ache.
The drug industry is a bit of a racket if you ask me.
Prescribed drugs I take a low does of Depakote to prevent migraines. I also have Imitrex prescribed to treat a migraine but I haven't had one since I started the Depakote a month ago.
Supplements Multi-vitamin, b-12 sublingual, calcium, fish oil, vit-c, acidopholis, vit-d, vit-d, biotin
Up until about 3 years ago I had been on anti-depressents for almost 9 years. Started on Paxil, switched to Serzone (which is now off the market for causing liver failure!), then onto Zoloft. I made a conscience decision to wean myself off which was about a 2 month process. I've done really well ever since but now dealing with all the medical issues and things lately I'm seriously considering going back on something. It might just be temporary but I am having that constant feeling of "hopelessness". I'm kind of having the up and down emotions I had as a teenager so it might be hormonal too. My sister has been on Celexa for over 5 years and has had good success with that and none of the side effects so I am considering that. We'll see what the old doc has to say. She leans towards more natural approaches too like accupuncture so she is not one of those doctors that puts too much pressure on about drugs like most doctors.
I take one levoxyl tablet, 125mg, every morning for hypothyroidism. Otherwise I force down a massive multivitamin when I remember.
Nothing else really, apart from a melatonin or two to regulate jet lag on long journeys.

This is very interesting because my wife is a senior director at Shaklee, we also take their stuff. Not meaning to advertise for the competition but NuSkin stuff is also very very good. The US Olympic team has been on it for years.
i started Paxil after my hubby died suddenly 4 years ago and has been adjusted a couple of times. I thought about weaning off them but stuff comes along to knock me off my feet again and so I leave it be.
I aslo take Requip for restless leg syndrome.
I take Aleve when my hands ache too much or my bursitus in my leg flares up.
If I remember I'll take a calcium, multi vitamin, baby asprin and a fish oil.
Stella, sex and football is all I do. Stopped the fags over a year ago, football inproved a lot.
