Can anyone tell me what happens at these appointments and should I be dressed formal or casual?
its a purely technical thing. they take your picture and print your fingers. Technical as in it was all done by technicians. The only formal stuff I had to do was fill in a form and wait for an hour whilst the person I was appointed to see got back from lunch.
Make sure you've got all the right info with you.
I guess you should wear whatever you want to be seen wearing on your green card. grin
Suggest not this sort of thing:

This would be more appropriate:

Is this the thingy where they do a retinal scan. Cos I've been listening to the beeb and the warranty on the retinal scan lasts 2 years, but you pay for a 10 year passport, you have to pay the warranty on the biometric scan yourself. It's a rip off.
Thanks for the answers, both serious and not so serious.
I dunno about them, but I was deadly serious!

Welcome to Britnet, by the way )
Thanks Monster. I almost died laughing at the pics you put up.
Great to be here.
They only do your fingerprints and take a photo. No eye scans.

The fingerprint thing takes ages as they have to roll each finger in a certain way, at a certain speed, yadda, yadda, yadda...

They've done it to me twice. The people in the center are almost asleep whilst working so I doubt they'd notice what you turned up in.
