I just got an email from paypal, my account and the credit card associated with it have been used by someone other than me.
I dropped the headers, it's a real email.
But they won't tell me which credit card!
What I want to know is how come these things are still not secure?

Ok, his nibs has had a look and reckons the email is bogus, however he says it's the best bogus he's seen so far, he had to do lewd things to my screen in order to find out stuff. I think I'm still closing the account. Sad really, it could have been so useful, but with the few details you put into Paypal, your identity can be taken from you and your bank account emptied.
Apparently it's somewhat safer in the UK, but then, they have regulations and consumer protection.

Annie, the first thing you do is to email Paypal with the contents of the phishing email, they will let you know if it is genuine or not. I think I just forwarded the one that came to me.
Annie, if Paypal wasn't reasonably secure, why would anybody go to these lengths to phish for the information?
The phishers know that the customers are the weak link in Paypal security, so as long as you keep your info tight, you're good.
Also make sure to check your credit card statements and if you see an unauthorized transaction, report it. The card company should refund it. So should Paypal.
Personally, I think you're more likely to have your credit card details stolen when a waiter takes it out of your sight in a restaurant etc.
Either way, if you did not authorize the use, you're covered.
Oh, and regarding bank account, don't keep lots of money in the one they have details of. You should still be covered for unauthorized withdrawals, though. And I doubt closing your account would make any difference -they altready have your info. Stand up to the internet bullies! If you find Paypal useful, use it.

Nah, I just hate the cold and the grey, it makes me grumpy and my joints won't work. However today is a warm day and I've weeded and built new beds for the beans and planted the lilac bushes. I prefer America to Uk in most respects, but I hate the cold just about anywhere.
