If you could take the best of the Government here and the UK what would you change..
The first thing I would change would be to create better consumer protection.Like the UK. Most laws should come down from central government.
I like the can do attitude so that needs to be encouraged more..
Strong militarywould also be a plus. Until the whole world lays down their arms. I want the biggest and best. Often wonder what the british Military would do if they had all the Toys the US had. I do still consider the British Milltary the best trained, but poorly equiped.
So what would you add to the list??
I agree Beng all people should have a standard of health care
I would change the fact that there are usually 4 or 5 different parties to vote for in the UK and its not all about who has the biggest wallet.
Here, I like the fact that you can vote directly on issues at the ballot box.
Don't like either of them.
Furthermore, it seems to me I never will. The people who have the right ideas and the ability to follow them through are not the people who are attracted to national government.
Are we picking from a chinese menu of laws or types of government?
government.
who offer menus of laws. which is fine. If only there were as many government options as chinese restaurants,.
Checks and balances are better in the US in the UK you cant get rid of life peers who displease you .
the morals( for want of a better word ) are highter in UK politics ,a goverment official will resign in he/she is involved in scandel for the *good of the party *, in the us you have to drag them out by their feet screaming .
Six of one half a dozen of the other .
to much power/ privalege in US federal politics.
to much nanyism *one size fits all in UK politics.
I also like the fact that the MPs can debate and question the leader of the goverment in parliament.
Imagine Prez. Bush in the House of Commons getting yelled at..... twisted
But Bush wouldn't have been made PM by either the Republican Representatives or Senators. Remember, the PM is the leader of the Parliamentary Party, with the majority of seats, not by the general electorate.

John Adams.
I've always felt the Canadian government has some of the best aspects of the two.
It's a parliamentary system like Britain's but with a constitution that includes a Charter of Rights And Freedoms - sort of a Bill of Rights light and written for more modern times, including concepts like gender equality.
The weakness in the Canadian system in my view is that there is too much pointless and childish bickering between the federal government and the provinces. Canada also has an absurd appointed senate, which is actually worse than the House of Lords, which at least has a sense of itself as a second chamber.
I think the thing I admire most about the States is the way rights can be fought for, won and (mostly) kept under the constitution. The fact that Britain does not really have a constitution is a problem I think. There's still a sense of paternalism and that wiser heads know better than the people. I think British government is far too secretive too.
The thing I admire most about the British system is the way the Prime Minister is put under constant scrutiny in rituals like Question Time and a cynical media and that if people aren't sure about their government there's always the option of a minority government to keep them on their toes.
The real problem though for all governments throughout the democratic world is a loss of trust and faith in governments, reflected in low voter turnouts and cynical or apathetic attitudes to government and politicians. So far they've done little to address this crisis in democracy or do very much to earn peoples' trust.
I think there's an element of that much-over-used phrase "you get the government you deserve" here.
Who would this best-of-both-worlds government govern? The best of the USA and UK?
Take the oft-mentioned accountablity of the British government, for example. We Brits tend to like it. But would Americans know how to use it? or could it be a liability here? Some Americans I've discussed it with don't see PMQT as anything to do with accountability, but as a lack of respect for those in authority. It would be wasted on them.
