I'm just wondering what sort of society gets outraged by Janet Jacksons tit on TV but thinks it's perfectly OK to have Saddam in the hangmans noose and footage of his dead body at 7am in the morning on CNN.

I honestly thought this stuff would be on You Tube, not TV news.

dianey you made me laugh early in the morning with that remark ( spilt coffee ) as cynical as i am .

Answer a fucked up society like ours and its not going to get any better .

Ummmm what type of society are we. The type of society we were a 1000 years back. Nothing has really changed other than we have tv and the internet now.

Not to long ago we would have public hanging and chopping people's heads off etc etc.

You think the public would have been outraged by the exposure of a nipple by a woman in the entertainment business back then?

....and who is next????

here it is ......

No more than the puritans would have been outraged to see a woman kiss a man in public way back then. No more outraged to see a woman express an opinion back in the 1800's. Its all very too faced to say the least monster.

Bet alot of those that shouted loudest have all seen, watched pornographic stuff and now the outrage of seeing a womans nipple on tv.

Its all very victorian
Upon seeing the shortened camera phone pics on the news (and then subsequently the whole thing on "the internets") I keep thinking a few things.

- Wouldn't everyone in the room have clearly seen some guy holding up his camera phone? I mean it's fairly blatant - which makes me wonder why it was such a surprise at all.

- If it weren't for an officially recorded video of the hanging don't you find the camera phone video oddly suspicious? I'm not a demented conspiracy nut (demented nut I'll grant you, but I do draw the line...) but it really feels like an orchestrated fake hanging. You see Saddam have a noose put over him, the moment he appears to drop the guy holding the phone points it at the floor, and then 20 seconds pass of blackness and then odd closeups of just Saddams face. In other words it isn't a video of his hanging at all - rather before and maybe just after - you can't really tell. And then it gets sent around the world for all to see. Like I said, if it weren't for the official video conspiracy nuts would be going mental right now. Indeed some of my friends are.

- If justice is what some people want, and the death penalty is determined to be the correct justice, why on earth would you do it by hanging? Talk about making yourselves look like a crazed mob. It can never look anything other than medieval mob justice - in other words, lynching - it just could not look righteous. Same here really - especially with the apparent mocking of him. The man was an evil shit so I don't feel sympathy in any way, but jeez get a clue and make the death as mundane and bland as possible.
I don't think they could have screwed this up more if they had tried.
First the execution itself topedoes further trials and denies those victims justice.
The manner of the execution and the videos now cause people to have sympathy for Saddam and then the deliver the corpse to his place of birth so that the Sunni insurgents can build a shrine...

The incompentency of the occupation continues...
I think the whole thing is just despicable really. This is a fucked up society which thinks they are better than other countries, I will truly be glad when I leave later this year... Dianey hit right on the nail. The U.S. continues to screw up in Iraq, they only aggravated the situation for soldiers and the civilians, they gave Saddam martyrdom, idiots... The man was a cruel murderer, but I don't believe his death will solve any problem or make Iraq any safer. According to the screen shot of MSNBC, Bush should be the next one to go, HE is clearly worse than SATAN!

On another issue, nudity has always created a stir here, but hey show the Americans some violence and they'll love it! They have an incredible appetite for destruction, war and guns, but show 'em a nipple...and "Family Value" activists will hang you, if they can. The U.S. produces each year more pornographic films than any other country, those of you who like wikepedia 1st place United States, 2nd place Amsterdam and 3rd Canada. Here, we have priests galore being accused of sexual misconduct, gay pastors preaching against homosexuality, but again are having sex with the same people they "despise". What about the American pilots in the first Iraq war, from the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy, they used to watch porn movies right before the bombings, it gave them the "kick to kill"(not really relevant to the post, but just another example of hypocrisy at its best). And these were all "Family man, the heroes of America".

I think you've answered that one quite comprehensively.

Webster's

"an organized group of persons associated together for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes. "

I recognize very little of the above in the radical right
