We're slippery floors a major problem in the UK back in the 70's? A big enough problem to create a public service advert? Watch this http//www.youtube.com/watch?v=vt016gTNp_k

I thought it was hilarious.. "you might as well set a man trap!". roll
I remember that one!
I don't remember that film but I do remember that women polished floors on their hands and knees while wearing high heels!
It makes me wonder if this is the reason my my on-law's place is carpeted from top to bottom - including the bathroom's and the whole kitchen. There's Not a single space of floor that doesn't have carpeting! shock

Yes, that's one of the reasons many houses were carpeted throughout. Another was cold. I like carpets in the bathroom (not the bog, though -I prefer the two rooms to be separate) but kitchen carpets are nasty, nasty things.

My parents home also used to be carpeted throughout, primarily to retain the heat.
Monster, we too had kitchen carpets, in fact I think I grew up thinking they were the norm Now when I wipe up in the kitchen after the kids meals, I wonder how my parents actully managed.

It was pretty normal then. All my family -both mum and dad's side had carpeted kitchens and they came from different areas/economic backgrounds. And they were horrid.

My parents had carpet up the side of the bath panel!!!

We have had kitchen carpet in two of our homes and bathroom carpet in four, including this one. That will be rectified soon as Mike will be putting laminate wood or tile in there.......if he's not in Mexico that is. roll

Debs x smile
The carpets in my in-law's bathroom/toilets are disgusting, especially the toilet on the main level. They have such a problem with mold in there yet instead of pulling it out and putting tile or something like that down the just slap down another piece of carpet! This room has absolutely no ventilation or anything (no windows either) and they look at me like I'm crazy when I suggest they keep the carpet out of it. It's so damp int here the carpet never dries out. In my opinion bathrooms and kitchend should not have carpets - just too hard to keep them clean in there!
had carpet everywhere hated stepping on cold floors. A bit different down here so I do not mind tile and wood floors here lol
