I need some help as I would like to know if I need to do any paperwork to move back to UK with US born son. Father is American and is going through immigration process do I need to do all this for my son or is he automatically a British citizen. Please advise. Thansk guys and Merry Christmas to everyone!!
You probably need to formalize your son's UK citizenship PRIOR to moving back. I would contact you local UK consulate for details. It is fairly straight forward to register them with the UK embassy and get citizenship, from memory the forms are available online.
Thanks Rob - does anyone know of a website where I can look further into this as I am coming up with blanks when I try and contact the consulate and just get recorded messages? ???

I live up in New England and found the British Consulate in Boston to be very helpful when I called them (just don't mention health insurance to them, I didn't have any at that time and got an extended lecture on how irresponsible I was... )
You can just apply for a passport for your DS. The British Embassy does encourage a registration process, but this is not necessary.
To apply for a passport, you need your birth certificate, marriage certificate and green card, and DH's birth certificate, along with child's birth certificate. British citizenship is decided on these original documents, rather than any kind of citizenship or birth certificate.
When I filled out passport apps for my two sons I think I remember that you just need all the info on the mother i.e birth certificate and such, I may be wrong!! Anyway I don't think you'll have a problem. Don't forget that you'll need your sons birth certificate and proof of birth from the hospital also! I didn't get U.S passports for my sons either and I had no problems leaving the country with them, although we all had British passports, if you're husband's American I recommend you get one for your son just in case. Hope this helps a little. grin
Your son will qualify for British Citizenship by the rule of descent, most important thing is to have his US passport/birth certificate as already stated by...well. everybody..good luck !!!
