Wondered if anyone can help with this one ??? My friend in the UK had a Son 26 years ago the Father was in the USAF, they lost contact and we have recently tracked him down. Son has been to US to visit now wants to live here, his Fathers name was not put on his UK birth certificate but they have now submitted paperwork to have that changed - with Fathers permission and help. But what do they do now to get a US passport ???? Forgot to say they also had a DNA test done
Thanks for your help.
As a first step the son would have to apply for and obtain citizenship. He can, potentially do this through either a parent or grandparent who is a US citizen.
Issues will include whether his parents were lawfully married at the time of his birth, (if not, this is not fatal, it just involves more work, along the lines of what they are doing). Also the date of birth will affect the process as the law changed at various times.

He may need to speak with an immigration attorney (I'm not one by the way) - where does the father live?
Thanks for your reply the Father lives in Texas, the Son was born in 1979.
This might help:

If Father is suportive, he might want to contact an immigration attorney in Texas.

However, the process may be one that can be completed without an attorney:

over the age of 18: you should review the information concerning transmission requirements to see if your parent(s) had the prerequisite physical presence in the United States required by U.S. citizenship law in effect at that time. If, based on this information, you believe you have a claim to U.S. citizenship, you should write to us at the following address, giving as many details of your situation as possible:
