Surprised no-one has talked about this yet, or I haven't been looking on the board hard enough
I finally got to see the new Bond Movie this weekend, this is the first Bond Movie I have not seen on Opening Night since Living Daylights; Work, Vegas Trips and a Desire to see it on one of the Biggest Screens in DFW getting in the way.
So My thoughts?, well I was one of the Many People who was not happy to see Daniel Craig cast, probably because he wasn't Clive Owen more than anything else, but I was prepared to give him a chance. Not being Clive Owen, plus the PR Disaster that was his announcement as the new Bond (Coming down the Thames wearing a lifejacket – Please!!) meant the knives were out from the beginning, it was little wonder that the media was willing to take every slip and every production rumor and twist it into Craig becoming the new Lazenby.
With that in Mind I deliberately did not follow production and build up as I have in the past and went in with little idea what the plot/Storyline was, well I did know that a Poker Game was in there somewhere and it was partly about how 007 became 007.
I think Daniel Craig has proved everyone wrong and the Producers right by taking the role, making it his own and becoming the Best Bond since Dalton. Although this is the Bond Bronson wanted to make, I don't think it would have worked with him in the role, it still would have been interesting to see how Clive Owen would have handled it, but now we will never know.
The Movie itself, well its just what the Franchise needed "A Reboot", Its fair to say that the Bond movies of late, although as good as ever, have become a little "Cut and Paste" in terms of Storyline and this takes things Back to Basics, although it's the longest, until it got to the Venice Scenes I didn't feel the time drag.
In some parts it was a case of cutting from one action scene to the next, they mixed in all the aspects that make a classic Bond Movie and left us Hungry for more.
Although "all new" in some respects, they left the 'Classic" parts in but with a twist, (when the movie opened I was saying to myself "NO – they can't get rid of the 'gun-barrel' opening scene!") and of course leaving the classic line until the very last was perfect.
Some other Random Thoughts (some very anal so I apologise) -
- Its been said that the Story shows how 007 Gets his Famous DB5, I guess they decided not to cover how/when he converted it from Left to Right Hand Drive
- Someone in EON Productions Hair/Make up, decided to give a Huge Alan Partridge Shout out, If the plot had Mads Mikkelsen getting out the New Ford Mondeo , no amount of Denials would convince me otherwise.
- Theme Music was the Best there has been since Living Daylights, Chris Cornell Kicked Butt!
Overall Bond is Back (Again!) , it looks like they are going back to classic style of having one movie lead into the next, so I already cannot wait to see where Bond 22 will go. I want to go see it again, and probably will sometime next week,
Anyone else seen it?
