When I was a kid we had an open fire and a Toby jug on the mantle containing long thin pieces of an almost card like paper. We used them to light the fire, or grandad's pipe. They were in fabulous muted dark greens, purples, reds and yellow/orange colours.
Does anyone know if these are still made, and if so what are they called?

Thankyou, off to get the lavender, bloody childproof lighters, burnt my thumb, childproof in my day was your mum said if you do that I'll knock you into the middle of next week, none of this let the aged burn themselves with childproof lighters when it's bitterly cold and they want to light a fire. Bloody lazy parenting, that's what I call it.
Bugger, bugger, bugger, owwwwwwwwww!
I think I have heard of them called that.

Cigarette lighters are crap for anything beyond cigarettes. I like BBQ lighters with the longer barrels so you don't burn yourself.
Yeah, I like those too. Can I buy one in this area. Of course not.
Which brings me to wasgij jigsaws, where did they go? Now you have to ship them in from the UK.
EEEEEh, this technology, it's not all it's cracked up to be. roll
yes, spills. tapers maybe?
Yep I remember them as spills too . . .my mum and grandpa would use rolled up and twisted newspaper instead tho.
here you go. In the UK, though.

they don't ship to US, but my MIL is coming in a few weeks -would be happy to mail on if she brings them over.
They're called spills. Any half-decent cigar shop should be able to sell them to you.
