Five grown men, who in a position of authority punched, hit and finally suffocated a defenseless child in Florida. They must be very proud of being so tough.

This is unfortunately symptomatic of a larger issue in American society. The lack of real connection, a lack of real compassion. This is also reflective of the atomized brutality that is inherent in the American psyche.
We see it in Guantanamo Bay, we see in their prisons, the death penalty, the poverty, racism etc etc. I don’t think there is anything to be done as this type of cruelty is a manifestation of its separatist and isolated ideology. Brutal indifference is the very marrow of its culture.
This is old news .
if trueand convicted the persons commiting this crime should never see the light of day again .

Yeah right!
Thought I'd tell y'all this happened here in our dear old town! The boot camp is now closed. This week the guards have all turned themselves in for arrest, I believe they are each out on $25,000. bail. The news reported Monday night that they were still waiting for the nurse to turn herself in.
We have seen footage of tape on our local news, and there are lots of unanswered questions. It definitely looked very one sided, and the sad thing is the nurse didn't do anything to stop them. They were holding him up, and thumping his arms, when they should have been calling for an ambulance. He collapsed whilst exercising with the other kids, but in the tape, they all look like a bunch of over zealous bullies in uniform.
A very sad case.
Not defending the guards, but its not an old story. It has happened throughout time ,
be it military, prision, sport teams or whatever.
The act of a few idiots . Glad they are going to be punished, years back it would have just been covered up.
We may have made some progress, but as much news as this one makes, there are hundreds that don't make the national news and are passed over.
Can't believe next month it's been a year since this happened...
Cases pending all over the place regarding the guards and the nurse.
But, something I do not understand is why the parents are sueing for $40. million... It won't bring the boy back!

It's called accountability.
And like Mom and apple pie, it's the American Way ( and Canadian )

I think it's the only way for them to scream out loud. With the authorities dragging their feet, it's a way of getting action. They won't get the $40M, but a large settlement might make other boot camps more careful in their training of personnel.
The law only can charge the participants, the lawsuit attacks the owners who failed in their duty to the youths.
As a whole I do not really believe society is any more violent than other passed societies.
We have always been a violent race. If you start from the bible to modern day.
