I've been reading alot of Sci-Fi lately and someone turned me on to Dan Simmons. Anyway, his books are pretty good but I also stumbled acorss his blog which he writes alot onto. I read this today and thought some here would like it too - it's a book idea of his based around the story of Robert Kennedy's assasination.

Anyway, I was also hoping someone could recommend something truly gritty and engaging to read. I didn't used to read sci-fi but I read Ken Grimwood's Replay and it was brilliant. Very suspensful. Any ideas?
I can highly recommend the "Dexter" series by Jeff Lindsay. Don't let the piss-poor Showtime series put you off, the books are far more funny in person.

Also Iain M Banks' "The Wasp Factory" is worth a read too.
Well, if you're looking up Banksy, I'd suggest Consider Phlebas, its tough enough to sink your teeth into, but digests rather well leaving a pleasant after-taste.
Gritty.....The Painted Bird by Jerzy Kosinski is pretty gritty I'd say. Very disturbing.
