I have a neighbour who is a number 1 fan of British music and annually produces a Christmas cd of his own compilation to distribute to the neighbours by way of a Christmas card.

This year I would like to give him a cd of offbeat British favourites - some that even a Britophile might not know. Now bear in mind that he was selling a Brotherhood of Man CD at a recent yard sale because it was a recent re-recording and not authentically 80s. (I didn't say his taste was good!)

Since I am well out of touch with music but would like to make this compilation, I need some suggestions.

The only proviso has to be that it either be readily available on cd or on iTunes - which is a pain since the US iTunes doens't have much. They have to be British artists and have been a hit in the UK.

The music is to span at least the 60s to the 90s, but since I left the UK I am completely igorant of anything past 1992 and I want about 20 tracks in all.

If you can give me some ideas that would be great.
Well your first stop is to browse Amazon for compilations.
The hard thing is finding out if the tracks made it over here.

The fact that his taste is poor doesn't help.

How about

Yomanda Synth and Strings (Ibiza classic)
Cornershop Brimful of Asha
Nizlopi JCB Song
Gary Numan Cars
Chumbawumba Tubthumping
Lightning Seeds, Skinner, Baddiel Three lions
Kirsty McColl /Pogues Fairytale of New York (Christmas song)
Pet Shop Boys West End Girls
Comic Relief (whoever) Amarillo
Buck's Fizz Making your Mind Up (barfing as I type)

I have to stop there, I'm feeling nauseous. Is that the sort of stuff?
Robbie Williams angels
The Firm Star Trekkin'
Bernard Cribbins Right Said Fred
More offbeat

The Goons Ying Tong Song
Kenny Everett Snot Rap

Oh yes!

One of my childhood memories is singing along to "Call up the Groups" featuring songs by The Searchers, Dave Clark Five, The Batchelors, Stones, Beatles.......

God, I'm showing my age now!!!!
