Anyone have kids who do Spelling Bees or Academic Games?

My 8yo daughter just took part in her first Academic Games Tournament -basically it's the math version of a spelling bee. Hundreds of kids dressed in duffel coats in a cafeteria at 9am on a Saturday shaking dice and turning them into equations.

I ask you to get me out of here, but she had a ball shock
Addam did a lot of Science Olympiads, and Odyssey of the mind stuff, he was more into that sort of thing than sports.
Nothing wrong with smart kids and Manc makes a good point that not all kids are into sports but still like competitions of the mind.

Good to hear she had fun there. I think competitions are fine unless the kids are under too much pressure to win at all costs.
Yep. Both James and Katy have done general knowledge quizes in teams against other schools. They were both on their panels as math and science persons for their years. Andrew has done chess and draughts club and loved it. there isn't one on at the minute unfortunately. Katy has done science club.

I love the fact that it doesn't matter what your passion is or how good you are at it, everyone is encouraged to join in with these things. From writing poetry to science clubs to theater and then all the sports. There is something for everyone.

Oh the kids have been at it for years - just a shame the teachers don't see the funny side.

Here's to food fights!
