How about a crew-cab F150?

No don't fancy a truck, too large for little ol me. I think I will pursue the Highlander and Pilot a little further. Thanks though

aren't they the people who make the huts?

Anyway, there used to be a British built Infinity sold over here, built at the Nissan factory in Sunderland.
Both that factory and the Honda plant is Swindon are amongst the best in the world apparently. Goes to show that there is nothing inherently wrong with UK manufacturing.

There are other, less costly and safer, vehicles that might meet your needs.
I'm not an expert by any means, but I's recomend you cast your net a little wider, look at 'crossovers' or some of the soft roaders. Also, Toyota and Honda tend to come top of the reliability ratings. Contrary to JohnA's view, British built vehicles tend not to.

I used to go by british cars but that was years ago when you had austin mini a car that stod the test of time .

Well you don't quote posts right  It wasn't me who wrote that.

Get one of those cross over vehicles something like a NISSAN MURANO
The 3rd row of seats in most smaller SUVs and Crossovers is typically very close to the tailgate, therefore compromising the safety of its occupants in the event of a rear-end collision.

I know this since I was the unfortunate person at my last company who gave a crossover vehicle to USA Today for an "urgent test drive" and then had a vast photo of it appear on the front page with a caption that read something like "3rd Row Death Traps"...

I wouldn't bother buying a Ford, unless it was a Focus, and even then they are ugly on the inside. Mazdas are nice enough, but once you get into SUV/Crossover range, they are all Ford clones anyway.

Nissan Murano has very little trunk space, I found. Plus it looks daft (IMO).

Toyota Highlander - my FIL has one. I find the steering too light and slightly vague and the lag when accelerating is awful. There is loads of space in the second row of seats, but ingress and egress to the 3rd row is difficult.

The Hondas are too expensive to even talk about.

Just to annoy MacZippy, I'd like to recommend the Pontiac Aztek.... wink

Your best bet would be to forget the idea of a 3rd row and get something lovely like a Subaru Forester or Chevy Malibu Maxx. Even a Jetta wagon.

Good luck.
