Florida, well that's what me and the other half are considering anyway!
would like some tips and advice if possible please, currently looking at orlando and surrounding areas, ideally a property on the golf course or adjacent to one.

Whats the work situation in florida, i am a time served plumber (but not getting any younger ) and my wife is an office administrator, what would be the prospects of obtaining employment on a local golf course, in any working capacity not solely maintenance.

We visited a place in florida last year called meadow woods near orange county and fell in love with the state, i'm no bill gates regarding wealth, but our house sale in london should fund a property in florida with a small bit left over to sustain us for a short time.

Any advise would be most welcome.

Kind regards, Danny & Kim
Look into getting some kind of work visa first mate, unless you're just planning a vacation home.
You need a work visa. Which means you need to find an American employer who wants to hire you, will sponsor you and pay for all the fees involved in getting your visa and in proving that there is no-one already here who can do the job you can do. i.e. not golf course maintenance.

Brutally honest time..... it aint gonna happen.

Keep working in the UK, buy a holiday home and just come for long holidays.
Thanks for the replies guys, regarding the long holidays in florida as opposed to residency, would we be limited to a maximum stay time doing it like that monster.

Cheers Danny

Six months out of a year with a B2?

I think so.

Best place to check is the US embassy page -they have descriptions of all the visas, their purposes and regulations
Cheers all for your help, I'll be making enquiries on tuesday regarding, B2.

By for now, will keep you posted................

Danny.

PS I'm a keen football supporter (soccer) so if anybody wants to know anything regarding leagues, players, transfers etc, let me know. I am fully aware that you are not all cut off from the world of english sport over there, but there's always grapevine issues that you may not be aware of.

Cheers.
footballgrapevine.net has us all set, but thanks for the offer!

lol mrgreen
You're welcome E 17, Is that E 17 as in walthamstow ?
Greetings All,
I'm new to the board & slowly working my way through all of the back posts etc so forgive me if I (seemingly) post out of sequence!

Danny Boy - if you are anything like a reasonable plumber, consider moving your direction about 400 miles south of Florida ............ the North Coast of the Dominican Republic. Ex-Oat community is desperate for a decent plumber here. Part time work (self employed) will give you plenty of time to visit all the good golf courses here & the cost of living 'ain't that bad either'!!

There is NO need for a work visa once you have applied for Residency, taxes are minimal (compared to most places) & the sun is known to shine fairly often!! The ONLY drawbacks are the need to learn Spanish (if you don't already have that), learning how to cope with the laid back culture ...................... AND the driving.

We moved here nearly 15 years ago & won't be moving back to UK even in a 6x2x2 ft box!! More info if you want it.
