Hopefully someone with experience with US Embassy will be able to set your mind at rest. As with most of these agencies, if you prepare ahead of time, they are usually quite easy and you're just one of many faces they deal with all day.

What will you do on your H4 visa? Look after your daughter or get to go to college to fill up your days? US daytime TV gets stale after the 2nd week wink

Best of luck to you and your family.
Well done I hope everything works out for you. I have a US company sponsoring me for a H1B work visa but they filed too late this year, all the visa's had gone!!! Shame there is no way of dipping into the pot as I am sure that out of 65,000 visa's there must be some that have not been claimed.

But like I said very well done to you and the best of luck, be yourself and the old good piece of advice just take a breath and think before you answer.
thanks for that,

airbirduk, you mention about the visas, did ya know they actually accept a good few thousand more as they know they will have to chuck some out,
i read that no so long ago,

good luck for next year and make sure you're ready to submit the application at the beginning of april,

When they said "interview" I expected to be in a room with either 1 or more people being asked a lot of questions. So I arrive at the Embassy take my tickets (you get 2 tickets of the same number) and wait, just like at the post office. You hand over your paperwork which they check (So don't forget anything) You are asked to sit down again until called to another window. I was asked 2 questions

1 How long have you known your wife?
2 How old are the kids?

He then stamped my paper and Welcomed me to the USA !!!

I have to say when I originally got my police record it had expired 6 days before the interview. The lady asked me if I had committed any crimes in the past 6 days. That was good enough for her. I could have answered I am a Scouser what do you think but thought better of it

In conclusion from what I first thought was going to be a tough interview turned out to be a day waiting in a Post office.

Scouser
My route here was slightly different (I married an American) - but the "interview" at the US embassy was much as Texas_Scouser described.

Don't sweat it.
Good luck.
oh well,
thats put my mind at ease,,,,a bit,,,

i've just spent the last hour looking on the embassy website to see what supporting docs we need,
i can't find it anywhere,
does anybody either know the link or know what docs we'll need,
i presume birth certificates and marriage certificate,,
but what else, we are applying for 1 h1b and 2 h4's,
thanks,

There is no dress code.
Just avoid wearing the I love Osama t-shirt. Also they tend to take a dim view of anything that suggests you might want to assasinate the president.

The embassy should have mailed you a list of all the documents they need.
