I was gonna run the marathon myself, but can't be arsed now with having to go through the border.
I don't really understand this, do they have heavy coastguard patrols in the lakes? do they have a fence when you get west of the border lakes? Why wouldn't anyone backpack stuff in, out of site of the crossing points?
Am I naive?

Anyone who looks like this will not be allowed to participate.
Did they take that photo before or after you crossed? razz

Dianey, the border at Detroit-Windsor is certainly not porous. Especially since 9/11/01. The passport/ID checks are fairly meticulous. And because it's a tunnel and bridge border, it is an easy crossing point to monitor. There are only two other crossing points between Buffalo and Thunder Bay (Port Huron / Sarnia, and Sault Ste Marie) so they are busy too.

indeed, the border is a pain in the arse. It's faster and easier to go through immigration at Newark.
