Ok seriously, I know you were thinking of a ranch type place where you could have horses.
You would also want to be within a reasonable commute to an airport, for frequent trips for work no doubt.
The rest I think would depend on your preferences for-
Beach, mountain, mainland, or island.
Privacy and locals or within east access of culture and people from everywhere.
Price may also be a factor in where you look for a place.
I've never been to Italy so I can't give my opinion on any place there.
Spain on the other hand, I like the northern side of it. The south is nice but it's harder to find places that havent become tourist oriented. Even the small villages cater to the tourist.

I've only been to Northern Spain but the joke then was that is where the Spaniards go on holiday.
It was quite green so probably the rainy part although in summer when I was there, it was beautiful.
Lovely part of the world - would like to go back there one day so hurry up and move and I'll make a visit wink

Ever been to Slovenia? I really enjoyed that. Mediterranean feel but with a Slavic flavour. Beautiful little country.

Well I toured pretty mucha ll of Europe/Eastern Europe by motorcycle (back int he good old days when Yugoslavia was a "whole" country...) for two years.
We'd be buying another house.
Wendl - that still may occur, but with the work I'm doing now it might just be easier to live in Europe for a whiles and rent out the house we have here. We're just doing some forthought right now...

That's kinda where we're looking, along with Valencia in Spain....
But we're planning on being over there within 2 to 3 years so we have time, but would be keen to hear some suggestions on planning etc...
Andrew :)

Advice from the very wealthy(not me).
Do not buy only rent.

I don't know either place well enough to recomend somewhere to live. I do know Milan, but it doesn't quite sound what you are looking for (but well worth a visit no the less).
What I have heard, but have no direct experience of, is that legal and property issues in in Italy can be a nightmare. Spain is probably more used to Brits buying property, and thus you will find it easier to obtain the necessary support and advice.
As I say, no direct experience and therefore I could be totally wrong... but certainly something to look into prior to choosing a spot.
