I'm completely ignorant of all this cooking stuff, but getting the occasional cravings for things prods me into considering giving it a try.

I want to make curds and for that I need "full cream milk". However I am suspicious that the regular whole milk here in the US is not the same thing as British full fat/cream milk. Whenever I have tried it I've never seen the layer of fat on top and it didn't taste as creamy. I'm guessing that unless I get the stuff with the fat then my curd making adventure will fail dismally.

Any advice anyone can give? Trader Joes perhaps? Thanks!

Andy
If you live in a rural area then you may be able to get some FF unpasteurised milk from a dairy farm. I know there is one about half an hour from me that sells it....much to the annoyance of USDA I suspect!!

Good luck!

The milk is homogenised. I don't know if all the cream is still there, but you can make curds with skim milk if you want
Thanks for the replies!

You'll be able to find regular, non homogenized milk at any health-foods store/wholefoods (in fact I think there might be a Wholefoods down your way) without much trouble.

Usually made by small dairies and typically sold in glass bottles...

Thanks! I'll give the "whole milk" a try first and if that doesn't work out then I'll go to one of the stores on the great site you linked to. grin

Whole milk is ok (organic tastes better) but when you find the cream-on-top milk, you'll not want to go back.

I found it in the local co-operative. It's actually called "Cream On Top" and has about an inch thick plug of cream - it's available in gallon containers.

Good luck!
