1) Do you feel like Britain is being damaged by all this PC nonsense?
No
2) Is it a crime to be British and Proud?
No
3) Are British values being observed?
what are british values - if you mean crusty old majors and blue rinsed racists on Eastbourne seafront - then hopefully they are history. If you mean the cosmopolitan, diverse, tolerant liberla society Britain can be - then yes. I'm suspect you are more of the former than latter, but perhaps thats my prejudice at play rather than yours.
4) Do British people get treated like second class citizens?
No - unless they are black, muslim or poor
5) Are we made to feel ashamed of our past?
not nearly enough
have a nice day.
5) Are we made to feel ashamed of our past?
not nearly enough
I feel sorry for you.
BRITISH and PROUD
5) Are we made to feel ashamed of our past?
not nearly enough
I feel sorry for you.
BRITISH and PROUD
Why on earth would you feel sorry for him? schools and society as a whole should teach history as it happened including the nasty things our ancestors did. Maybe if kids learnt both sides of the truth a bit more the world would be a better place and we may start to learn by our mistakes and be more tolerant of others.
Yes, I'm proud to be British but I'm not proud of what our country stood for regarding the empire. However, like Rob, I am proud of the tolerant liberal country we have become, and the diversity our past Empire has brought to our shores. whether it would have happened without the British Empire, I don't know, but I like to think that it is one good thing that came out of it.
1) Do you feel like Britain is being damaged by all this PC nonsense?
What pc nonsense is that?
===========================
2) Is it a crime to be British and Proud?
Not at all
===========================
3) Are British values being observed?
By whom?
============================
4) Do British people get treated like second class citizens?
Is that white Brits in Britain or all Brits around the world?
==============================
5) Are we made to feel ashamed of our past
On a personal level no.
As a nation, there were things done that today would never be considered but thats life.
As for what I suspect you are really asking.
My brother lives in Croydon.
He works for the local government.
This is what he tells me.
He isn't allowed to fly a British flag as it might be considered a racist comment.
Immigrants from poorer countries no matter what their colour are getting free housing, healthcare and money just for arriving in the UK.
The UK is trying to accomodate all nationalities and religions whilst suppressing, the English language and National identity. ie British flag flying, parades, promoting minorities to a higher standard than white Brits.
How much of this is truth, his own experience, what he reads or watches or a bit of all, I really don't know.
I really think it depends where you live and how you percieve what's around you.

You are missing the point most of our schools teach the chidren about all other cultures and beliefs before our own, thats the problem!
As the great man once said.........
"A nation that has forgotten its past can have no future"

Trust me he is not making any of that up. :sad:

Flying flag from private buildings - any flag whatsoever - is (or at least used to be) a violation of planning law in England and Wales.
It is civil offense - that means thelocal council enforce it. So do some don't. To my knowledge Croydon was one of the strictest. The reasons for this involved a house a roof and a large fibreglass shark.
The flag flying law either has or will shortly be changed following protests over the summer involving football plans flying the flag.
Immigrants generally do not get housing and money. They get shitty hotel rooms and some aid with food.
Immigrants from EU countries have the same rights as UK citizens. As do British citizens in the rest of the EU. You can thank Margaret Thatcher for that if you wish.
Everyone in Britain gets direct access to the NHS - its one of the things that makes me proud of Britain and I'd resist anyone who thinks the NHS should start discriminating by race, skin colour and nationality.
In fairness, you are relying on what your brother tells you and I hear the same from my mother... so this isn't a dig at you but for the most part its nottrue, or at least not entirely true.
However it is the sort of stuff the extreme right feed of.
Rob I totally agree, that is why I refered it to my brothers comments.
I don't know where he gets his info but some of it does seem ridiculous.
Like the one about immigrants getting 3000 pounds for a car as they cant read the bus schedule.
The flag flying part he told me it's in his work contract

I left over ten years ago. I have no idea. I'm with monster wondering why you posted this on an ex pat site.
Besides, I don't consider myself British, I've been away long enough to know I'm English.
